Ugh,going through the loft,I am reminded of the problem of storing school books. My kids age in range 8-15y.I have kept every single school book that comes home (and every reading record book, which gets lost, replaced and found multiple times then ,so several records each year per child :o).I don't think I have the heart to recycle mine yet.Maybe one day.
I also wanted to say, well done donating to an angel baby charity-it is beautiful work they do,from what I have seen.

Haven't we got some long lists of stuff leaving houses today?Lots of decluttering being done around here :j.
For myself, the Great Loft Declutter 2017 continues.A bit slower going today (partner and OH returned from a couple of days away,so lots of time catching up.But,of course, one of the reasons I want to declutter,is so I can have more family time without constantly thinking I should be doing something else.Sometimes just being is enough.
As yesterday,I have set aside lots of stuff to donate, and will list when it leaves the house. For now, that stuff is spread all over the house, sort of negating the big tidy-up I had the previous 2 days :o:rotfl::rotfl:.
So,over the day,I spent 5 hours 44 min sorting through the loft (plus 30 min "tidying up" a bit after. In actual fact, the place looks like a wreck, with the most random bits sprawled throughout.).Adding up the numbers now,it doesn't fell like I spent that long, because there was so much stoping and starting.Still,I am glad I did, even though I am still up posting at this hour!

    Out of the loft today:

    Recycled:
159:box that contained a whole dinner set .My parents-in-law gave it to us when OH and I moved in together. It is a bit posh, and very delicate,so we used it for a few years, then 4 kids came along, and Disney plates and bowls are much better for those years. So the bits we will use (bowls and plates yes, teacups and saucers not so much),were put through the dishwasher, and have started using.Discovered tonight they are not microwaveable. The arcing in the microwave was the clue :eek::rotfl::rotfl:
    160-162:3 shoe box lids
    163:1 shoe box
164:photo album.Had to explain to my 15yo what it was :eek::rotfl:.I don't use photo albums (but am old enough to know what they are!),but was able to repurpose. The album was a foolscap-folder style (biggger size, but with clipping spine).Daughter has kept a couple of the loose album pages to put study-cards in,and the album for study notes. The spare album pages I will donate.
165:decorated Build-A-Bear Workshop box, crushed from years spent in the loft
166:wallpaper offcuts. Not actually sure if it is recyclable-will find out when binmen either collect or reject on Monday :o
    167:Christmas wrapping paper,again,crushed in storage

Other finds in the loft today which have been given a second life around the house (apart from the dinner set),are 2 waterproof coats, and an alarm clock.

  • I have spent a bit of time getting bits and pieces ready for starting back at work tomorrow, and kids back to school on Tuesday and Wednesday. But I still had some time to do a bit more looking through the loft.(Spent about an hour in the loft.)Over the last 2 days,I have bought so many empty boxes down into the house (some already empty from my decluttering efforts this year, others I have emptied in the last few years).Last night my 10- and 8-yo thought their room being full of boxes and lids was a great excuse to have a "sleepover" in a pop-up tent in our kitchen :rotfl::rotfl:.Couldn't have that again ,with school about to start,so this aftyernoon I put the empties back into the loft, all neatly stacked, making 2 neat towers. Then I continued browsing through the loft.I have bought a few things down to sort through, but at this stage, all I have decluttered from the loft today is
168: a bundle of scrap paper .I have always used old A4 pages/mail/fliers/school note etc for writing notes.I used to tend tearing into A5 pieces and storing it to use.How a bundle of this got in the loft,I am not sure. But it is gone now.
    169:broken frame with photo

From in the house,(which I am counting as a seperate 2017 challenge),more stuff has left the house.
My 10yo had a plastic bag of "stuff" all set aside.I asked her what it was,and she said it was stuff she no longer wanted, and was giving to her best friend.I asked her if friend and friend's mum were happy for stuff to be coming into their house like this, and she said yes-the mum knows all about it,and it is fine.So of course,in the name of proper accountability on this thread,I had to check out what was leaving the house :D:
    1733:book of temporary tattoos
    1734-1735:2 Jacqueline Wilson books
    1736:David Walliams book
    1737-1738:2 other books
1739-1748:10 pairs of socks :rotfl:.I did ask if friend knew she was taking receivership of 10 pairs of used socks.Apparently so......
    1749:a dress
    1750-1755:6 hairbands,never used,which match school uniform gingham
    1756-1757:2 t-shirts
    1758:vest top
    1759:1 pair leggings
    1760:1 pair trousers
    1761:bundles notebooks and pencils
    1762:Rubiks cube
    1763:small purse
    1764:netted bath sponge
    1765-1767:3 bath bombs
    1768:lip balm
    1769:small pot of glitter
    1770:star-shaped emery board
    1771:travel bottle of Dove bodywash

  • DD has made a start on her room so that's 1 black bin liner of rubbish, 1 large reusable shopping bag of old exercise books for recycling, 1 Carrier bag crammed for the CS and at least 2 loads of washing.

Recycled from loft (which I count seperately):

170-175: about 6 plastic boxes that stored Christmas decorations. The decs will never be put back in them,so no point keeping
176:cardboard box which contained boxes that Nintendo games

177-193: 17 pieces of plastic that made up "things" that my kids made into unidentifiable masterpieces at school: margarine pots, yoghurt pots, egg boxes.......These are the types of things that I collect in my loft. After 10 years of having 4 kids going to schhol,my loft is full of these treasures .Really, why do I keep them?
