This is a search for detached bungalows up to 160K within 40 miles of Barry. More than 600 of them! Hmmm. Just checked. Filters aren't great. There are quite a few houses that I wouldn't call bungalows... But hey ho - quite a few that are.

It's not a search for detached bungalows... it#s a search for all detached houses AND bungalows. But yes, of the 606 there must be something suitable other than the Wales thing!0 -

OP said they don't want to do any work/much work on it. I've just guesstimated my way up to tens of thousands of £ and quite a bit of work on that one.
.....because the real down-side you missed is the NE facing garden. Oh, and being 270m above sea level!!!
There's no exterior picture of the house, which actually doesn't look too bad, especially at the price point.0 -
There are some areas of the West Midlands where you could quite easily get a detached house. Specifically areas around Coventry, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Tamworth etc. It does mean living in areas that are considered less 'desirable' but not the worst thing in the world if you don't mind people being a bit snobby about where you live
Tamworth, while not the height of sophistication, has some nice little villages and towns where you could get a lovely property for your budget.
(As a new user I can't post links so you'll have to put the www. in yourself!)
Offers Over £160,000 in Coventry but needs zero work:

£159,950 in Tamworth, this is a very nice property:

£159,950 in Coventry. If you prefer new builds, this might be worth a shot:

£159,950 in Rowley Regis (Birmingham, basically). Needs a bit of painting as it's a bit 'flowery' but you might like that!

Offers over £155,950 in a little village near Rugeley. This looks like a fab little property for the price!

Basically, look around the West MidlandsIt gets a bad rap but actually it's not a bad place to live depending on the area and there's plenty of properties in your price range. It also has the benefit of being pretty well connected in terms of public transport, which is helpful!

Quite a few in the Derby/Nottingham area. Again a nice region really, Derby has the Peak district nearby with great rail and road links, and Nottingham has nice city centre amenities and some nice residential areas. And the tram!

There's a first for everything - seeing stone tiles on bedroom floors and the state that washing machine has been allowed to get into.0
