Where can you buy a detached property in England for under £160,000?

Think Bouicca wins that one :rotfl:.
Looks like quite a reasonable little house and at least it's still same country. But OP has specified which part of Britain though...and it doesn't match that criteria.
Hmm....count out the two reasons I wouldn't move there personally - and well...there is the advantage of not having neighbours right on top of you and not a scrap of privacy in the garden that all the cheaper detached houses noted elsewhere so far have...0 -
Thank you everyone for all your suggestions. - Davesnave and moneyistooshorttomention, regarding your questions, other than basic decorating we don’t want to buy a place that requires lots of work. Isolated is fine, as is places where there is not much work or public transport. We could live with being overlooked providing it ticked most other boxes but wouldn’t consider a place that was at high risk of flooding. Jacwick is already crossed off the list!
We are still at the early stages, and are just considering our options. Having suffered horrendous noise from neighbours whilst living in an apartment many years ago, we are keen to buy a detached property if possible. Whilst not totally ruling out a semi or a terraced house, I do know of people who suffer from neighbour noise living in a semi.
Initially we just want to draw up a short list of possible areas where one can buy a detached property in a nice area for under £160,000. A small modern 2 bedroom bungalow would be ideal.0 -
Two beds makes it more do-able, but bungalows usually come at an extra price premium, unless there are many of them in the area.
If it's for retirement, then you might as well be somewhere close to nice scenery and possibly beaches too, which is why I'm going to cheat a little and say how about the English speaking part of Pembrokeshire? ('Little England in Wales' - none of that "Cymru am byth!")

Not bad Dave - but the 4th one would need very careful investigation as to where the boundaries lie (looking at that plan with the words "approximate boundary" up there - more than once).
Boundaries can be rather vaguer in Wales than in the rest of the country and I've certainly seen a noticeable number of cases of this - and I understand some English solicitors make a point of telling English clients planning on moving to Wales that they need to either take extra care about where their boundaries are or not be that bothered where their boundaries are.0 -
