I am aware of Lincolnshire, but apart from there, is there anywhere else in England where detached properties can often be found for around £160,000 or less?

Just do some random 40mile radius right move searches, you'll find thousands.0

There's not enough info,
A big difference exists between 3 and 2 bed detached prices. Parking, or the lack of it, has influence too.
But as a rule, you'd find most properties like this in old industrial centres, especially up north, or in remoter places where poor transport and lack of jobs present particular difficulties.
Properties which fall into this budget elsewhere will have some down-side, such as non-standard construction, other structual problems, at risk of flooding, local occupancy condition etc etc.
There's much more to choosing a property than first meets the eye. In some places you might do better on a limited budget by going semi-detached, rather than taking-on the worst of the detached offerings.0 -

I always thought Gainsborough was in Lincolnshire.
As an auction property the price quoted will be at least 10% below what's expected; possibly more.
I thought that that wasnt a bad price at all for that - looked good (if you don't mind being so overlooked).
But - then I noticed it's "auction" and thought "It won't go for that....".
As Davesnave says - there is often a reason for detached properties being affordable. It may or may not be a reason you can deal with. I moved elsewhere in Britain and the downside basically is more remote (well...viewing the news in recent years = there are positive sides to that remoteness too).
Also - the way I managed a cheaper detached is I bought somewhere being described as "ready to move into" - but, in actual fact, it was pretty much unliveable-in to start with (ie not just old-fashioned). So - it's boiled down to the house costing somewhere between its face value price (ie of what I paid for it) and what a similar house would have cost in my own area. With that difference being paid out in installments after getting the house - on this major job, then that major job, then another major job etc etc and some of that major work was necessary just in order for the house to function at all basically. That was hard to cope with - as most houses where I'm from are liveable-in/more modern at the outset/more my taste.
So - which of the factors Dave mentioned and/or the "unliveable in to start with" factor I mentioned do you feel able to deal with personally?0 -
