I am also going to seriously declutter the four crammed full kitchen drawers of junk that has accumulated. This will be done, fingers crossed within the next week as I am fed up of drawers that spill junk out when you open them.

Oh good idea for a thread and much better than 'resolutions'! Thanks.
last Jan I did buy a pretty notebook and whilst on a wintersun holiday (so I had time, peace and quiet and was relaxed!), I made notes relating to travel plans, cooking from scratch and batch cooking, fitness, an idea for self employment, a budget that would cover all bills and a few extras, and plans for decorating 2 rooms. It brought everything into focus and meant I didn't just flit around doing bits of things but never finishing anything off, iykwim:)
I haven't got the notebook with me atm but now I come to think of it, from memory, I have achieved the vast majority of the plans AND I have lost 2.5 stone.
Interestingly I did not put 'weight loss' in the plans, but the time was right and although there is more to lose I am finding that I can do it and I am looking forward to wearing nice new clothes as I get smaller!
Right, none of that addresses the topic, does it?!
2017
- more targetted exercise. It is much easier now I have lost weight so I am encouraged to go further with the fitness campaign!
- more staycations, even if it is just a day trip I want to see more of this lovely island.
- review food spending. I have spent more on food this last year, ironically, because I ditched carbs and bought quailty protein, salad stuff and fresh food and if buying a pack of dressed crab from M&S as a real treat kept me to my diet then it was well worth itI will keep a note of weekly food spends in 2017.
- I shall keep a gratitude jor - thank you so much to person who suggested above - I do have a lot to be thankful for and DH and I frequently acknowledge this but the idea of making a note of nice things as they happen or we see and experience them is so lovely.
- I may take up a new hobby or learning opportunity but I need to think that one through (watch this space).
- I will buy more flowersI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -

Absolutely love that sentiment. I did just that this year by leaving my career of 13 years to be a stay at home mum. It’s been a huge loss financially and we’re still learning to adjust, it’s only been 2.5 months but we’re all much happier even if we’re poorer.Mischiefmanaged wrote: »I keep umming and ahhing over starting get on OU degree.
Go for it. There’s no time like the present. Mine starts in February and I cannot wait. I’ve wanted to study for a degree for a long time but falling into a career (not one that I was seeking mind!) was holding me back.Start yoga again.
This is on my list too. I’ve never done it but have my first class next week and I’m beyond excited.
So in addition to the above, I’d like to lose another 1.5 stone which will take me to my goal weight. I’ve lost 2 stone over the past 12 months so need to really stay on track as I’d like to get there by our summer holiday in July.
As we really need to start watching what we spend, I aim to update a budgeting spreadsheet regularly and only keep the amount of money we need in a current account putting the rest aside into a savings account. We spend so much money we don’t need to on meals out or eating at soft play rather than coming home for lunch. We could save a fortune. I’ve joined the Grocery Challenge 2017 in a bid to massively reduce our food bill. Again, that’s totally excessive for our family of 4, 2 of which are under 5!
Finally, I’m planning on selling all the things we don’t use in the house. There’s so much of it and if I really went for it, I could probably clear the majority of our outstanding debt. I’ve already started that today but selling an old iPhone and an iPad that never gets used through Mazuma.0 -
We'll started my intentions today by taking myself shopping and spending my Xmas money on me instead of the family. Finally found a shop that sells lovely fashionable clothes for women over 50, bought a lovely jumper. Spent a little time just looking in the shops but most of them had sales on with stuff I am sure has never seen the light of day. Planning a walk somewhere soon. Always a little bit cautious when the weather is bad going out by myself.x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000

Get a good grade in the module i'm studying university, it's so hard! I want to spend more time studying and less time worrying and procrastinating. I would like to start blogging my no unnecessary spend year. Save £1500, or hit a bigger target than that.0

:beer:Lovely thread
My aims for 2017 are
To get fitter not any fatter. My mum died age 54 from a stroke and I will be 52 next year. I do not take my health seriously.
To declutter and organise my home. I live in a lovely cottage with 2 spare bedrooms, a huge attic, a pantry and 2 cupboards, we have been here 3 years and are bursting at the seems.
To read more and read only the books I own or borrow for the year.
To knit more and use the wonderful yarn I have.
To sew more and use my wonderful stash of fabric
To go to bed with a book not an ipadNow Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j0 -
Ha love that "fitter not fatter"' I have an exercise bike in the garage that I need to start using. DS1 has just rang and invited me out for a walk with lunch thrown in tomorrow. That will make two days on the run where I have done stuff for myself. Just transferred some money over to my long term savings and have emptied my savings jar and have just under £90 in it which will be going into my long term savings as well, so doing well on another of my aims for this next year.x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000

This year I'd like to take DS on a little holiday or a few more day trips. I also want to be a bit more patient (!)
I'd like to replace the curtains in my bedroom and DS's bedroom with blinds (safe ones for DS's room). I know where I'd like to get them from, so that's step one!
I want to paint the hall/landing/stairs and I would like to redecorate my bedroom and the bathroom. We've had water/roof troubles in the bathroom and it's taken 3 years to get the Housing association to fix it.... If it is fixed! I have new flooring ready to be laid in there too.
I'd also like to relay the hallway laminate and get the beading done.
This year I extended my patio and created a patch for fruit bushes, so I need to buy and plant said bushes this year!
Blinds, painting the hall etc and the fruit bushes are top of my list.
I entered the village show this year and placed for nearly everything, so I'd like to enter again this year coming.
I've been doing well with saving. I'm not in any debt and am not in a position to buy a house, so I guess it'd be nice to know what I'm saving for. Last/this year I saved and that money went on learning to drive and towards the car. Now I'm not really sure what it would go on. Probably those home improvement jobs! My laminate flooring is ok, it was secondhand, but the laying of it isn't professional... It was just me with a two year old! And the first time I had ever done anything like that. I still have the spare stuff. I could lift it up and employ a more useful person to lay it, with matching beading. DS is five now to give you an idea of how long it's been like it is!0
