I've signed with Iresa. What are the risks? Can my energy be turned off, for example?

You supply will not be turned off if a supplier stops trading. Ofgem will step in and it will appoint a Supplier of Last Resort to ensure that you have no issues. Ofgem has recently brought in a consumer levy to ensure that no customer credit balances are lost. If the demise of GBEnergy is anything to go by you will stay on your fixed tariff until the end of the contract, and you will not be asked to amend your DD mandate.

....the major risk of supplier failure as far as I can see, is that the "supplier of last resort" will only honour the tariffs for a limited time which could see one scrabbling about to find another deal rather than being transferred on to a standard variable deal.

Only time will tell. FWIW, I think that Ofgem has set a precedent that it will be unable to row back from. Remember, the bail out is a mixture of money paid by the new supplier to gain more customers and a levy on all energy customers. I doubt whether Ofgem will worry if the customer levy is £5 or £25M: the money is not coming out of their coffers.

Thanks for the honesty. How do you expect people to stay with over 40% price increases? I just signed a deal that is marginally more than your v19, about £9 per year. Is v21 preparing us for a collective deal? Come on, be honest.

I'm not aware of any new collectives we're involved with nick pike but, as I've said before, we only find out at round about the same time as details are released generally.

  • I put my family and friends on E.ON Energy Fixed 1 Year v18, which was a good deal at the time, but sadly expires on 19 Jan 2017.

Because I like Eon and there are not exit fee, I have moved (i.e. 19 Jan 16) everyone over to :

    E.ON Energy Fixed 1 Year v21
Unit rate Normal 14.301p per kWh
    Standing charge 16.422p per day
    TCR 16.07 p per kWh
    Exit fees = £0

Just noticed EON have a slightly cheaper Tariff, but with big £30 exit fee :

    E.ON Saver Fixed 1 Year v4

Unit rate Normal 14.217p per kWh
    Standing charge 16.422p per day
    TCR 15.99 p per kWh
    Exit fees = £30

Don't think its worth changing Tariff again for a few pound saving, and having £30 exit fee, when we can move again... But maybe they will be dropping the E.ON Energy Fixed 1 Year v21 shortly, so maybe worth signing up before it got...

Hello Moneyking and glad you like us.

At the moment, we're running version 21 and the Saver tariff side by side. This is because customers, both existing and potentially new, need to pay with a Monthly Direct Debit and accept paperless billing to qualify for the Saver tariff. Whereas, version 21 is open to customers paying by any means and who prefer paper bills.

As you say, the Saver tariff has exit fees (£30 per fuel) for changing supplier outside of the renewal period but version 21 doesn't. Customers can change from one E.ON tariff to another at any time without charge/exit fee. We can, though, withdraw our tariffs from sale at any time.

Hope this helps Moneyking. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.

By swapping to a new supplier, I'm saving £430 on v21. That is not 'a few pounds'. Do yourself a favour and shop around. There are far cheaper deals out there.
