I have just signed up for Iresa dual fuel fixed for 12 months. A bit sad to leave Eon but their failure to come up with a competitive tariff left me with no choice.

I have been in contact today to confirm that if I switch within this period I will not be charged the two £30 exit fees as per the offgem rules. They seem have to have a different interpretation of this and say that I cannot switch until just before the contract end of 22.02.2017 to avoid these charges. Has anybody else had this problem?
Hopefully Malc will reply to my need for confirmation about the 49 day period. My contract ends on 22nd February 2017. My understanding is that if I were to switch within 49 days of 22.02.2017 then I would not pay the £30 exit fee on each of gas and electricity.
Thank you for that information. I think that what I do is what has been suggested earlier and start the change process but delay the changeover date so that completion is not until th end of the eon contract date.
I agree wholeheartedly re lack of appreciation etc for long standing customers and lack of clear information if you contact them.

Hello jackieh2853 and welcome to the Forums.

Happy to confirm, for customers on Fixed Term tariffs, there's a Price Protection window that's open 49 calendar days before the contract end date until 20 working days after. Provided we're told, customers changing supplier during this time will stay on the cheaper prices and avoid any exit fees whilst the switch goes through.

As your tariff ends on 22 February 17, to avoid exit fees and higher prices, you can start a switch around now.

Sorry you were told differently when you contacted us jackieh2853. The information you were given then is wrong. I'll see about re-briefing the right information so we're all singing from the same hymn sheet.

Sorry Malc We really appreciate your input here but this is rather disingenuous. Customers do not really have varying needs. It is Eon and other such suppliers who have the varying needs which is maximising profit for shareholders. Customers needs or wants are fairly simple. A reasonable service for an affordable price and not to be taken for granted as longer term customers with the better offers being offered to new customers. Not vouchers, lock ins, migration fines, and constant chopping and changing.
This is illustrated by the fact that after initial fixed periods end, we are not automatically put onto the next lowest available tariff (without lock in) . We have to ask for it! There is no reward for loyalty.

Totally understand where you're coming from Patr100. The only thing I would add to what I've said before is that we're not allowed to put customers on to contracted products (with or without exit fees), like Fixed Term deals, without talking to them first. Without this conversation, customers automatically go on to a variable, non-contracted tariff once their agreed contract runs out. This is explained on the renewal notices we send between 42 and 49 days before a fixed tariff ends.

We also let customers know if they could pay less on bills, statements and annual summaries.

The only needs that customers need is the cheapest price. Sorry mate, but a lot of words that told me nothing. Can you tell us please what the best deal with E-ON is right now? My v19 deal ends Feb 1st. Are there lower tariffs available than v21?
    What is the best deal?

Hello nick pike and fully understand what you're saying.

Based on prices per kWh and daily standing charges alone, our Fixed 1 Year version 21 tariff will be the cheapest we currently have on sale. This doesn't include discounts, payment adjustments or E.ON Rewards as these vary from customer to customer. The renewal notices we send out between 42 and 49 days before your tariff ends will let you know the best option currently available.

Thanks for the honesty. How do you expect people to stay with over 40% price increases? I just signed a deal that is marginally more than your v19, about £9 per year. Is v21 preparing us for a collective deal? Come on, be honest.

Is anybody else tempted by a 2 year fix for gas which.is the same price as the 1 year fix? There's usually a margin to be paid for extra certainty.

Unless gas prices are not expected to rise over the next couple of years?

Yes I was tempted, but went with Iresa.

For me Iresa is a risk re their service, an unknown really and E.on have forced that on me to consider. Would have preferred to stay.

Preferred to take that (Iresa) risk and stay dual fuel, one direct debit, one company to deal with rather than ( in my view) double risk of going with 2 new companies in hope of saving in second year, that might or might not happen.

A marginal call but thinking and then overthinking told me to just get on with it! No simple ( and correct) answer - too many unknowns. Good luck.
  • A special thanks to Eon Malc over the past few years for all his help, sadly today I have left Eon after many many years, I didn't want to leave, but Eon left me with no choice. Happy New Year All.

I took a 2 year fix with E.on. The margin paid for extra certainty was well worth the risk?

Gas 2.51 pence per kwh, (2.636p per kwh inc vat.)

Like many others, I've been holding out for a reason to stay with Eon - but feel as if I'm being pushed away. Surely there must be a huge number of customers who were on the Feb 16 collective tariff who are in the same position - i.e. would like to stay with Eon. but will be forced to switch in a couple of weeks.

Has anyone found a good elec supplier offering better rates than those shown on the Cheap Energy Club price comparison? I've read the earlier references to Iresa - does anyone have any feedback/experiences with this company?
