Thanks Freespirit, I don't really have a Starbucks near me. I sometimes pop on when in when I'm at the shopping mall. But I do love a Costa when I need a treat to myself. They do a gingerbread latte too, it was very nice with the whipped cream and mini gingerbread man. Oh and they topped it with crushed gingerbread crumbs. Yum.

  • Hi all,

Hope the poorly people are starting to feel better now!

I'm cooking on Christmas day and it's my OH who normally does roasts, so on Sunday I did roast chicken etc on my own, as a practice run and to try and see if there were any problems. And I found one, the tray we use to carve a joint got damaged and thrown away a couple of weeks ago and we had nothing to carve on. So a tray has been ordered. Other than that the practice run was a success and I'm pretty pleased with myself, both for thinking of doing one and doing well at it

Another cold day here and its beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!!
Hope all are well or are on the road to recovery x
Vulpix- Prague was beautiful, the weather was cold but not unbearable and the hotel was lush! My fave part was sitting under Charles Bridge one evening sipping hot wine on a bench (not like a wino lol) in a mini Christmas market- it was soooo Christmassy! The Czech Republic is a beautiful country (from what we saw) the buildings without exception in Prague are gorgeous. As it was occupied during WW2 it wasn't bombed so nearly all original structures still stand. They do have a massive problem with graffiti tho which spoils the views a little at low level and the heart breaking problem of homelessness is very evident. I would definitely go again - a word of warning- everywhere is cobbled and it KILLS your feet! Other than that a perfect holiday.

Snorkypants- looks like Christmas dinner is on track to be a success , good idea for a trial run x.
Jakes-mum- agh thats awful! We had something similar a month ago with a parcel to France, it took 2 weeks instead of the 3 days it usually takes as it was left at the collection point for days. I hope you get some answers from Royal Mail.
Coxxy- those cupcakes sound delicious! DD has threatened us with making some gingerbread men at the weekend which may not be quite as delicious lol.
Patent girl- I mentioned the beer deal on here and I am really pleased with what we had. Its a present for DS so its all wrapped up together. Glad you're feeling a little better.

Free that's a lovely idea and so kind and thoughtful x You are a special lady x

Today I will finish wrapping the presents I have secreted around the house DH's when DS gets it out of hiding (hidden safely away so DH cant find it). Its a pen so I am going to wrap it in a large box and pretty it all up so that he knows its his 'big' present but so that the size of the box doesn't give it away. I think he is on to us as he hasn't asked his usual 6 million questions this year (does it need batteries? Has it got wires? etc etc), although I hope it is a big surprise to him as its something he has lusted after for a looong time and we have all put together for it.
    lovin' this site!

Nic there is an awful virus going around we had it last month(thanks taz) almost flu like symptoms with a hacking cough the kind where you can't catch your breath. Every time you felt like you were getting better it got worse again :( took about 3 weeks to start feeling beck to normal and 4/5 weeks to shift the cough. Hope your feeling better soon

get well wishes to anyone who needs them

Fairly organised just need to pick up a couple of vouchers and I'm done present wise though still got a load of wrapping to do. Really glad I was mostly finished as with starting my new job and working the notice on my old one till last friday its feels like I've had no time to do anything this month and its flown by. This week I was looking forward to having a few days to myself and getting things finished yeah right in typical fashion Taz got sent home from school yesterday and is now off for the rest of the week as would seem he has norovirus and spent most of yesterday projectile vomiting :( just hoping no-one else gets it or if they do they are better before the big day I really can't afford to get it as its not going to look good taking time off so close to starting a new job. On a lighter note he has lost both his top teeth so have a brilliant all I want for xmas is my 2 front teeth pic.

Ikea sale starts on the 21st -

I will try and catch up properly later
    tc all

FREE I've just twigged what you mean by reverse advent doh. It's a really good idea, I'll add it to the list I'm making of things learnt this year to do next year. Other things on the list so far include not buying battery operated lights (too heavy on the batteries), trying out Kirsty's potato printed wrapping paper (robins and penguins) and not buying cheapo Christmas cards (looks tacky and mean). I'm going to include decorations I need for next year too so I can get them before I get all the decs out of the loft.

SNORKY the practice run was a great idea. When I'm doing a full meal for more than just us two I have a really detailed list of exactly what time I need to do everything - other than that it's just too stressful for me lol.

JAKESMUM, thank goodness you chased it up or it would probably still be there. Really annoying and very poor service though. Hope they have the decency to acknowledge their mistake and apologise.

VULPIX hope the recording went well.

Hope you've got your thermals on COXY.

NIC I'd get back onto the doctor if I were you, you might have an infection as it's gone on so long. Hope you feel better soon. ETA - I've just seen MANDCO's post, sounds like you may be another victim.

MANDCO hope Taz is feeling better and nobody else succumbs.

Off out to lunch with some friends today so looking forward to that. Had my hair coloured yesterday, it's a caramel blonde - hair looks ok, my face below it not so much :D
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

so, just wrote a post and MSE gave me a funny page and I lost the whole thing :(

    Well this one stayed!

Congrats on your trial dinner Snorky

Thats what I thought too Stockie, I mean, why would parcelforce pick it up, not scan it to say they have taken it, and then return it the next day? and why would the post office accept back a parcel when they had n way to contact me to return it? It all sounds like baloney and they buried it under a pile of parcels and never gave it to the driver.

BUT on a better note, UPS tracking shows the parcel was at MIL's local depot at 6:10 am and is out for delivery :D So £4 cheaper and its got there in 24 hrs! I'll stick to UPS from now on!

Now I must finish the present wrapping as this is DD's last day at school and she'll be stuck to me like toffee on teeth until christmas day (just so she can make sure she doesn't miss any christmas related stuff I might be doing :rotfl: )

Glad UPS have done what parcel force didn't for you! Still waiting to hear off bestie if their package has arrived. My bet is his wife has picked it up in post and not mentioned it to him.

Off to work soon ...urgh! Six shifts to do doesn't sit nicely but hopefully they will whizz by. Tonight and Friday are worst two. The others I can cope with (just thinking of the extra pennies that will hit my account on Friday)

    Hope everyone is ok

  • just popping on while things are (relatively) quiet. Sorry that so many have illnesses at this time of year, too. l think l am all but ready for the big event, even if they fast forward it to tomorrow, l have food to make a festive meal, and everyone will have something to unwrap. Oh, DGD has asked for a chocolate cake instead of Christmas pudding, so that is still on the to do or buy list. DS1 and DDIL have gone across to the north east, and are staying overnight, so l have the nibs to myself, looooovvvveeelly. Thank goodness for kids TV, l didn't realise how much entertainment they need. We have already made flower arrangements and winter hanging baskets, baked mince pies and brownies, and now mrsl is zausted. Pizza for tea, methinks, with ice cream to follow.
lf l don't get back on before the big event, have a very Merry Christmas all. xx
  • Just nipping in for probably the last time this year. Anything not done will have to go without.

Hairdresser coming tonight, followed by my brother coming for dinner, this is annual! Then I have to pack, load the car, try & get a reasonable night's sleep. Work tomorrow, then leave for ferry afterwards, hopefully traffic from south London to North Wales will be ok & I have a decent journey there, then ferry on Thursday morning. Roll on Friday morning, I get one of those things, what are they called, oh yes, a lie in!

I wish you and yours a very happy, relaxed, peaceful Christmas & New Year.
A smile costs little but creates much :)

Oh yes, that was the other thing the trial run revealed - when planning and writing down what needs to come in and out of the oven when, I need to remember I only have 2 oven shelves!

I'm a good cook overall but roasts make me anxious because there are so many different elements all ready at once in those last few minutes. So planning and practice are essential if I want to avoid a breakdown :rotfl:
