Hi,there is a lovely strong coloured rainbow outside at the mo.

When my kids were younger they had chocolate coins and little gadgety things from the pound shop and such in their stockings. They opened them on my bed and then we all went downstairs to see what Father Christmas had brought.

Ooo I do hope your back behaves for your hols 0246.

I have been to the hospital for a mammogram today.Aparently I have to have mine there now for 10 years! But that means a trip round the cheapo shops.I got 2 of those glass drinks dispensers from Asda,an absolute bargain at £4.Also some red church candles for £1 from Tescs and a couple of those wooden garden crates from the pound shop. These shopping bags for the grown up kids need to be bags on wheels there is so much to fit in now.I will put the homemade produce in the garden crates.I also got from BnM little bottles of cookie mixture, layered, you know what I mean, for DD2 only £1 each.Nice stocking filler.

    Gotta rush.

    Vx

I am hoping not to bring too much clutter/tat in the shape of gifts for Christmas this year. I only end up throwing it away so it feels like I am throwing money in the bin. What are people key essentials in stockings?

Chocolate orange - for OH as we don't have any spoglets - but xmas is not xmas without a choc orange (ps Poundworld have them in stock atm)

None of mine like chocolate oranges :eek:

046 - I hope your back is feeling better and you have managed to get your bits and pieces done hitch free. As far as stockings go - I had the realisation that I was just buying tat to fill them with as well last year so I decided to go with the 5 senses - something to feel, something to smell, something to taste, something to hear and something to see.
My son had a necklace that he had asked for (see), chocolate coins, christmas socks (feel) some cheap smellies (smell) and his hear was a game that all the balls rattled together (hear) - Holly had similiar but with girly things - they both enjoyed sitting and opening their stockings on our bed. :D

Vulpix - hope your mammogram has gone ok. Which reminds me I need to book in for the dreaded Sm*ar test :( hate them. I saw those crates in Poundland the other day too - I am thinking I might make my mum a sweetie box but fill some of those little milk bottles with her favourite sweets and put them in one of those crates. Cheap simple and she can reuse it when they are empty.

Free - I got slightly confused when youd written Sammy in your last post - haha - doesnt take much!

Murie - Im off to pick up a perscription today at our local chemist an the walk back is lined with bramble bushes so me and my daughter will probably go blackberry picking on the way home. The apple tree on the way to town can be seen from the bus too so I will see how its looking. Although my scrumping partner is in Barcelona at the minute - she was local to where the terrorist attack was yesterday but thankfully not involved.

MandCo - I love the christmas cards appearing! It means the decorations in town will start to go up soon - they hang giant swags from the roofs with golden bells, angels and baubles on them - and it really does make me feel festive seeing them lining the roofs

So today involves a trip to town, a trip to the chemist, hopefully the rain holding off to blackberry pick, a visit to the in laws and then home to chill for a bit and tonight I am so excited because we are going to meet our new puppy Nicki :j:j:j:j:j

Yay to cards and decs arriving. Had to take DD to hospital appointment yesterday, so we went into the range afterwards. No sign of Christmas there yet, but if l had all day and a blank cheque.......
My bargain cabinets arrived from M&Spensive, went together very easily, (that's what Steve Flat pack man said), and look great. l am delighted with them. However l couldn't just dump the old, so have upcycled one of them into a cupboard to hold/hide the toilet cleaning items.
Brambles are ripening on the pathway behind DDs garden, so a visit is imminent. Bramble jelly this year, though as now l have a denture l cant cope with the seeds in jam. And bramble gin and maybe a rumtopft.
My appointment with the neuro surgeon has arrived, it is October, so not much longer. l had to laugh when my GP said he had seen worse MRI results, but only post mortem!! cheeky blighter. Yes, l agree, back pain is the pits.
Need to get ready for DGN and fave niece coming later, back into school mode preparation.
DGS needs a haircut, and shoes. xx

Oh I could spend a fortune in the range as well! Especially on nicknaks - and Im just as bad in ikea!

Glad your cabinets arrived as promised and well done on the upcycling too!

If you did make bramble jam I would recommend passing it through a sieve - takes out all the seeds and you have lovely smooth jam for you to enjoy - I did this last year as neither of my two kids are fussed on the seeds - took a little while extra but not much and the jam was very tasty.

    What is a rumtopft?

    Afternoon everyone,

04624181 yes do ask about having it done as DD2 has been pain free for six months and has been able to do so many more things than she could while in pain. Must haves for the stockings in chez Free are Chocolate Oranges, Chocolate Coins, Novelty Socks, Bubble Bath, lip salve, calendars, diaries, body spray etc stuff that gets used and wont sit around cluttering up their rooms

VULPIX some good bargains there I might look for the glass water dispensers as ours is plastic

SAMMYKAYE ooh how exciting lots of puppy cuddles

MRSINVISIBLE ooh that's a blast from the past a Rumtopf we used to have the proper rumtopf jar and used to make that in the eighties every Christmas :D

Alright everyone, I bring you a treat. If you want to spend an afternoon looking at gorgeous (but dear) Christmas items, the Cox and Cox Christmas section is open: https://www.coxandcox.co.uk/christmas/ :T

I did make that phone call and changed the JC appointment. Let's just hope I wrote the new day and time down right. :rotfl:

Had an odd experience yesterday. Walking into the library where I volunteer I got catcalled for the first time. It really unsettled me as I've not had to deal with that sort of thing before (I've led a sheltered existence thanks to the ME/CFS). It was quite intimidating. :( But it could have been worse and life goes on lol.

Got a cold now too. :rotfl: But I can't take blocked nose tablets cause I'm on a beta blocker now. Fingers crossed it only lasts a few days.

The fruit picking sounds lovely. As does apple crumble for weeks! :D

I'm off to look at pretty Christmas things online.

Right I need to go and investigate what this Rumtopf thing is :rotfl::rotfl: I was born in 84 and dont recognise the word. Although Im guessing its alcoholic so I probably wont like it.

Thanks Free - I will try and put some cute puppy pictures up later for you to see.

And you gave me a good idea for my sister in laws Xmas present - she likes diaries, notebooks etc so I think I might go the calendar/notebook route with a bottle of wine for her and some chocolates in a nice bag
