Penalty Notice from Council

I am going to put in my 'thoughts' and of course you are all correct in chastising OP, but how many things can our eyes take in at once given that many other drivers are so impatient and just love harassing slower drivers who are trying to take in unknown surroundings. Perhaps if we all practice having a little more patience with drivers who are unsure of the procedures in a 'strange town' the world would be a better place, not to mention safer.
And before you all jump on me - firstly I live in a large area that has no bus lanes, and when I took my test, no such thing existed, so yes I have experienced this same problem, however, having lived in USA and passed their driving test, I am a sensible and careful driver, and of course learnt to drive there at the time.
Perhaps we should look closer to home at all drivers who ignore a mini roundabout recently installed and continue to think they have the right of way because it always was previously, or then their are those drivers who think nothing of driving down a lane that is merging to 'get in front' of all the patient drivers waiting in their correct lane!
Dont' get me started. Merry Christmas0 -
OP, just think of it as tourist tax.0

I drove through Nottingham City centre for the first time a couple of months ago, following the SatNav to my destination and didn't once stray into restricted lanes.
As already pointed out the signs are very clear.
You could always ask on Pepipoo.com, they are experts in council fines, but they will want every single minute detail including scans of the front and back of the ticket.0 -
I have received a Penalty Charge notice from Nottingham City Council today for driving in a bus lane. I am asked to pay £30 within 14 days. My "excuses" are:
1) I have never driven in this city centre before.
2) I have sat Nav and was just following instructions
Please don't lecture me as I know it is wrong. Unfortunately I just followed instructions and perhaps lacked awareness.
I am wandering if I have a case to appeal? I think I will just pay the £90 and learn from it?
Also, I am concerned that I have "pinged" a few more cameras as I drove straight through the city centre.
Would I receive all notices on the same day?
I think you need a lecture on the highlighted point. They are not instructions, they are only advisory.I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.0 -

This is not the correct procedure for a piece of road like this. The correct way is for the two lanes approach the merge and then MERGE IN TURN what does that mean you cry; it means one car from each lane takes turns at going next. The Americans say "like a zipper" if you are still confused.
Your way of driving causes unnecessary tailbacks with everyone who doesn't know the rules or are afraid to follow the rules queuing in the "correct" lane incorrectly.0 -

Exactly as rich13348 says if you don't merge at the end it causes tailbacks so your method is incorrect. I know a roundabout near me where this is quite evident: when exiting the roundabout there is immediately two lanes and you are in the right lane which merges into the left Lane a few hundred meters ahead. When people exit the roundabout and there is traffic and they immediately stop and try to get into the left Lane it cause tailbacks onto the roundabout, instead of in the lane as intended!0 -

"Just obeying orders" didn't work at the Nuremberg trials either!0 -
Many councils allow you to submit an appeal and still pay the reduced penalty if the appeal fails.
Even though you don't have a defence, it's worth appealing if there's no penalty as they might be having a good day! What will your verse be?

Too many silly little painted lines around these days and cameras to tax the motorist!0
