Update on the overdraft fiasco,I havent had chance to go into the bank in person so i phoned them from work today to see if they could waive the charge for a first offence,:o basically he said if it was an arranged overdraft £1 a day charge they wont but if its an unarranged overdraft? which would charge more they would waive it!!! unfortunately for us its the arranged overdraft we have so they wont do it grrrr!!, i dont understand it at all as they would be letting us off with loads more and for 4 of the days the banks were shut and i wasnt able to pay the money in till the 3rd of Jan when they opened again. Anyway i tried and its a lesson learnt:mad:0

Spent £31 something in Marks but had a £20 voucher (a sparks win) and took advantage of a few special offer, got it down to £9 something. Lost the receipt. Also bought a large bag of dried figs in the greengrocer, that came to £5.20, so I will round it all up to £15 spend in total. Sig updated.
I should be sorted for the rest of the week and a good few days into the next too. DH now is stocked up with eggs, cheese, fruit and even has his beloved maple syrup for his porridge. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Now into 3rd week of our 4 week 'month' and have £77.45 remaining. This weekend's shop to come, then one more full week.
Soup bloop this morning.
I have been making stock from veg peelings & ends, onion skins etc, and usually this comes out fine. Then I add whatever I can to make soup.
However, something tasted very bitter in the stock this morning. There was nothing new added, but I think the composition changed. Maybe I can get away with a few swede / butternut squash peeling in a mix which is mostly carrot peelings...but now we are eating both potatoes and carrots with the skins on what remains in the 'stockpile' is maybe just too strong.
The taste of two teaspoonfuls of bitter stock stayed with me for hours afterwards :lipsrseal
I made the soup without stock and it was pretty bland, sigh.
I am wondering if stock free soup might work though, if I planned it better. It would be quicker to do, and I'm not keen on stock cubes, salt-wise, cost-wise and taste-wise.Target £80 per week groceries, household and cleaning for four adults.0 -

Found some morries vouchers that OH had put down and forgotten. (20 pounds) so used it as an excuse to go there rather than mr t.Found they still sell basic OJ in lunchbox packs (and it's even gone down to 40p) when Tesco have binned their basic one and it is now nearly a quid a pack. Since I need 5 packs a week I know where I will be stocking up from now on!0

Have lost the plot somewhat here! Spent £60 at the markets this week, between this morning & Wednesday, and am now too close to my target for comfort... If I HAD to do it, I could, as there's plenty in the store cupboards & freezer; maybe I'll just put my foot down & manage it somehow!
ETA: the bulk buy purse will be taking a hit in the next few days too - we're running very low on flour!Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Hi everyone
I have failed this week, when I went through my cupboards I realised I was running low on some bits and Bob's that I use, so I used up nearly two weeks money £43.54 so I'm writing that off and have given myself a fiver to last until Tuesday night.

NSD yesterday, but since it's Friday and I needed cat food and a couple of bits for my Friday night cooking from a cookbook meal, I went to the Sm in the way home from work and spent £18.25 which also included wine . But did get a few YS veg at 10p each to top up fresh stuff.
Hopefully no spend tomorrow unless we need milk. Apart from that I'm sure I can make lots, might have a batch cook day to stop me shopping .Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)
