Sorry might not be the answer you want but I would take off what you ate yesterday and count the rest.

It will give you a good start for January, great haul. My problem is I get yellow sticker stuff but it sits in the freezer for ages and I forget about it :o But all that will change when I start meal planning in February :)

I did just that. The only thing we ate was a 99p chicken, so I have added up everything else (not including the batteries as they are coming out of the 'Christmas money').

We went to Aldi today, after returning all the clothes gifts that were the wrong sizes/styles for the kids and spent £20. I don't think we will need too much else this week as we still have loads of festive junk in.

    Spends so far for Week 1. 28/12/16 - 03/01/17 are £35.67.

My first shop today, came to £6.83. Milk, a stock up on the 19p Maris piper potatoes and broccoli and some mixers/soft drinks for new years eve. I will need some buffet bits and pieces on Saturday but it shouldn't come to much then pull our belts right in and use everything up.

    From Aldi?
I bought about 8 bags of them, they are excellent value :money::money:

  • I spent £1.17 today on some part baked baguettes, I baked 3 today as we had visitors for lunch, I have 5 slices of baguette left, tomorrow I shall make onion soup for lunch and serve it with the bread toasted with cheese on top.

Pleased to say I haven't had any spends yet in my week 2 (today's the first day of week 2 for me lol)... I have been using up stuff in the fridge and using my cupboard stock. I treated myself to a 30% off beautiful notepad on a magnetic clipboard from Paperchase and it's on my fridge - I'm writing stuff on there as I use the last of it or get near running out if it's stock items, and therefore building up a shopping list before adding stuff for meals.

I'm not meal planning yet as have only been home since Boxing Day evening, and I'm away again from Friday morning until New Years Day evening, so didn't really want to do a shop if I can avoid it!

IDEAS please - I need to devise some kind of savoury breakfast item that I can take with me while I'm away - we're staying in a hotel but only one of the cheapy ones so there's no fridge in the room and no way to heat anything up and we haven't booked breakfast as it's extortionate for what you actually eat! But I NEED breakfast! I was thinking some kind of baked thing, similar to my almond butter oatmeal baked cups (which also freeze well) but they are sweet and I really don't deal well with sweet in the morning!

Can I fashion some kind of "cake" thing from red lentils maybe? Any ideas welcome!! Has to be vegan, portable, savoury, fine for 2 days without fridging, and doesn't need to be heated up. Difficult one! My parents will just have a banana and be fine on that and my sister doesn't eat breakfast so I'm already going to be feeling like a greedy pig!

Also, need to get my house sorted out, it's a mess and therefore is desperate for a deep clean. It's very overwhelming but I can't cope with it anymore so found the Flylady website earlier when googling and I am excited to start that!!

elsie, would these be any good? https://www.veganosity.com/savory-vegan-corn-and-pepper-breakfast-muffins/
I would imagine they'd be fine out of the fridge, but maybe place near an open window if you're concerned?

Have you seen the flylady thread on here? I have joined that too this month.

2017 is going to be the year I sort myself out (house, food and mind) I am determined and must stick with it.

The only suggestions I can think of for breakfast are those breakfast biscuits you can get a huge selection but I don't know if any are vegan (I suspect not :() and they may not be classed as savory.

How about oat cakes and spread (can you get a tinned version of vegan pate substitute?)

    Do you have a kettle?

If so, Miso Soup - just add hot water and broken noodles, leave for a couple of minutes and enjoy :)

I also pan fry potato chunks with spices (nothing 'hot' but think bombay potatoes without the tomatoes - or use marigold bouillon/yeast for a salty savoury taste) and eat that cold - good for a couple of days without a fridge because you're not using any dairy but I would suggest keeping it in the coolest part of the room and not going beyond 48 hours.

You could also just go crudite - I'm thinking a handful of baby toms, carrot sticks, a bread roll and a tube of mushroom pate

Finally - make it your first stop when you're out and about - Everyone get's out in to the fresh air and finds a nice coffee shop for some toast?

Personally, having someone else cook me breakfast in the morning is the main highlight of going away :D
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

  • Spends for today £15.89 supermarket (mostly YS) £2.75 work (breakfast, dinner and coffee)

    Running total £37.21 (34.46 supermarket, 2.75 work)

Cant believe I have spent that much already  plan was this month just to monitor to help set target for next month. This thread works as even just monitoring I am already thinking I need to curb the spending.

Does anyone drink kefir? I got some today as its suppose to be very good for you, plan is to drink some every morning. I am not very keen on it but can just about drink it if I mix if half and half with milk.
  • I'd like to join please - starting from 30th December - budget £300. Like others here, our freezers and cupboards are bulging at the seams! We usually spend £100 per week, so this will take some willpower!
