  • Wel im still at £0 spends for food. We just had leftover beef curry from yesterday, and the kids (including niece and nephew) had food from the freezer.
My freezer doesnt have any more 'kids' food now so ill have to stock up a little on that.
Still here..... but working on that!

Hello to you all - remember me?

I'm the thread rep who lists everyone's budgets on post #3 but unfortunately I haven't been able to post since the October challenge. My nephew took his own life six weeks ago and it has been very difficult to have any time for 'normal' activities during that time. We say goodbye to him tomorrow so things are settling down and I just wanted to make a new start to my duties on here by coming on and letting you know why I haven't been around.

Once DS2 has finished with the laptop I will get on and make a note of all your budgets. It's encouraging to see lots of newbies and returners to the thread - welcome to you all. Wishing you all luck with the challenge,

Coxy11 - I'm so sorry, such a difficult time for you all.

  • I'd like to join please. At the moment, for our family of 4, we spend in excess of £500 a month on our grocery bill which I think is insane given that my eldest started school in September and has her main meal there. We do still have one in nappies but we buy a lot of unnecessary things.

I'd like to start with a budget of £300 for January.

    Hi SE.

I think it means plan 5 days of meals but don't plan which day you have the meal on - so plan to have the ingredients in for something 'meaty' and something 'vegi' but don't say meat monday, vegi tuesday.

I do this with quick vs cook meals - I might plan a roast and a soup'n'sarnie night - which day is which will depend on how late it is when I get out of work and if I managed a lunch break.
so you always have 5 days meals to pick from.

I do mine 5 days then to zero and start afresh but you could start with say 10 days worth, once you get down to 5 days then add another day/meal or more to the list. Make it so you always have 5 days/meals minimum to choose from, that way in theory you should always have something available that your son with eat.

At the same time as NewShadow says being flexible with the days.

If you freeze most ready to defrost overnight or even microwave defrost on the day (if your son doesn't decide until the same day) it should work.

Thanks so much guys, I'll give that a try :)
