    :mad:Hello Blackberry here catching up.
To be honest I've had to take a step back from this thread. When I first joined people did talk much more about how to make money and save money. Recently I started to feel that this had become just a maths balance sheet where no one was interacting just saying what they'd paid. And, when you aren't paying off very much it can get depressing. Yes I'm genuinely pleased that people are clearing their debts and there are some like me who have been around for 3 years, maybe more, so you so really deserve it. But it's a bit like Facebook sometimes when everyone is posting about their good times and you are staying in alone. So I haven’t logged on for a few months, mostly I think those feelings are more down to me and my head than the thread but I thought I'd share in case anyone else is feeling the same way.

Since my last post I have paid off £188 so since the last thread I have paid of £2449 but I now have another debt on another card of £1300 - my daughter started University a months rent in advance was £700 plus a security deposit of £300 plus I bought a second hand fridge and her bedding and pans and clothes because she had nothing not even shoes. So I've scrimped all year and I'm back to owing £4848. To not get too down about it Muppets I'll keep my total as it is and change it when the new thread starts. It's not like I'm getting in debt for buying nice things like holidays or cars, does anyone else feel like this or is it just me.

Hello Blackberry - I know that I am nearly always guilty of posting and running, without even reading. This thread was more a way of keeping me accountable - and I thought my goal was hugely stretching this year (my 'Gulp!' on my original post was very real) To have beaten my target, I'm very pleased with - BUT I've also incurred some further debts on a 0% card along the way - so I will be starting next year off owing more than I will be finishing this year off (as I'm not including the 'new' debt this late in the year - I'll start with a clean slate in Jan - where I NEED to be more focussed next year, as our income will have dropped) (O% CC includes a new fridge freezer after ours died unexpectedly, huge unexpected car repairs on a just-out-of warranty 3 year old car & a new cooker as ours is on its last legs and is uneconomical to repair (repairs cost just over 50% of the cost of a new one)

I have a frantic finish to this year (and a crazy Jan, tbh) - life is then quiet for several months, so I plan on attacking the debt as much as possible and finding other ways to make money (I have very seasonal based work and am unlikely to work many hours (maybe 20?in total) after the end of Jan until May) This will include flebaying (although I do have less stuff now - we even sold a large tent and a large trailer this year, so most things I sell will most likely be < £5 after fees - but it does add up, and I won't be working much, so I'll have more time), surveys (again, not huge returns, but I'll have more time), shopping around etc. I currently have 1 at uni and hopefully another starting in Sept next year, so I understand your pain at the costs!

    I'll see you on next year's thread - we'll get there! :)

Hello lovely people. Apologies for long boring thread but thought it might help someone.

I'm feeling a lot more positive and yes it does help that people are sharing. i don't know if this helps anyone but I've moved money around. Muppets I have a new total but if it helps and makes more sense I'll just put it on the new thread in a few weeks time and technically I have cleared the money on this thread although NOT debt free.
At the start of the year I had a few ccs and a loan so about £5999 altogether which I've been hacking away at, mostly it was costing me about £236 to stay on top of it. The loan I got down to £959 but it had 10 months to go, the ccs were going down but in bits and drabs plus mortgage of £309 3 years left to go and all other bills.

So last Friday I took out a loan for £11,000 at 2.99% a lower interest than my mortgage and a lower interest than my loan - credit cards at 0% which is great but paying how I was ,I couldn't see an end to them. With the £11,000 loan I have cleared my previous loan @ 6%, cleared my ccs and cleared my mortgage which was at 4.99%. So I owe £11,000 but I've cleared everything else and the repayment is £320 for 3 years saving me a massive £193 a month over the 3 years that is more than 6k, paying as I was my 3 credit cards of £3,000 would have taken more than 3 years and gone on for ever.

Why didn't I do this sooner??I knew loan rates had dropped. Anyway at least I can see a way forward and I can make overpayments on this loan and pay off early with no penalties. So I'm hopeful that by this time next year I could be totally debt free. I have to say that seeing that amount in my bank account a week before Christmas I was tempted not to pay one card and have a really good Christmas and splurge but I tried to think how that wouldn't move me on and focus that I had an extra £190 to spend in December on a tree and food and presents.

    Afternoon all!

We've come to the decision (well, I have, OH doesn't really know anything about our finances, he leaves it to me!) that I want as little of a minimum monthly debt payment as humanly possible as I only get SMP, nothing extra through work so I'm overpaying to mortgage. our car loan and our 0% card which paid for our New Zealand flights (none of these are in my signature as they are joint debt rather than the massive amount I racked up years ago) we do have the money in savings to cover the NZ card but I'm planning to leave that as savings and pay it off through normal monthly income, giving us a buffer when little one arrives. It might not make much sense to anyone else but it's the best plan for me mentally at the moment :D
