    Howdy guys

    Looking for your advice.

Bit last minute, however considering booking a holiday to Vegas for around mid June time for 7 nights, never been there before so complete novice and not a gambler, but would really like to visit the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam etc, wife fancies a bit of relaxing round the pool also. Do you think its doable, would you recommend it considering my brief background and is it going to be a costly holiday, any hotel/ package recommendations etc?

Many thanks in advance for your help

Hoover Dam is close to Las Vegas. You could rent a car and drive there, or take an escorted tour.

The Grand Canyon is more complicated:

The West Rim (Grand Canyon West) is much closer to Las Vegas than the South Rim (the national park).

You can drive to either, or you can take escorted coach trips to either. Helicopter trips from Las Vegas only go to the West Rim.

The South Rim is much more impressive and most people would regard it as being the real thing.

The Skywalk is at the West Rim.

Its one of the things i dislike about vegas the length of time it takes to get there(i know your going to la first it seems)
I just wish vegas was say 4hours away on a plane, how good would that be?

I bought us the Cowabunga passes...
Turns out, even with the groupon discount, our timing makes the groupon cost more (i think).... unsure of whether Cowabunga would charge tax on the price you see on there website...

We go 2 weeks today, and looking to goto the park on the tuesday after memorial day, which has hours of 4pm - 8pm, and ticket price of $20.....
Will let u know what the park is like anyway :)

Thanks Stuie! Hope you enjoy it and looking forward to hearing about it :-)

I have been to Cowabunga a couple of times. We really enjoy it, it's not huge like Orlando waterparks but still fun and a change from hotel pool. We have been in August and it's really hot underfoot you cannot walk barefoot but you can hold onto your flipflops down the rides. Went this year in April and the park had just opened for the season. It was perfect weather for us and it was really quiet so no queuing.

You must go in zuma zooma....

Cowabunga is open for max hours on the Sat, Sun & Mon (Memorial weekend), but my guess is, that's the time to avoid going to the park, as it will be mega mega busy.....
Although I did wonder, could Monday be quiet if visitors are going home, etc etc....

Well although it's over a week before I actually arrive in Vegas my trip starts tomorrow as I drive to the airport and overnight at Heathrow before flying to Seattle on Sunday for a week.

It's been over eight years since i've been able to afford a trip like this one so the excitement is starting to build.

I'll be checking in while i'm away but would like to say thank you for all the advice and trip reports which have helped in the planning of the Vegas part of my trip, it's very much appreciated. Hope I can help others when I return.

    Stew
