OH had a hot choc craving the other night (after watching tv ads). We only had value hot choc and it was a bit lacking :o Plus not so low fat

Anyone got any low-fat really chocolatey hot choc recommendations so I can get a stock in (next week when I get paid ;)).

I like my hot choc thick like you get when you go skiing in the Alps ;)

  • Morning all ! There will be people that sneak in whilst I'm typing ( I'd bet cold hard cash it will be MrsM for starters :D ) so hello to you too !

Frogga - come on lass, you're having a blip, it will come to an end. You might not feel very happy with yourself but look at what you've already achieved - and I know you're very competitive but let me boringly remind you that in Aesop's Fables it was the tortoise and not the hare that won the race ! ( neither of those are frog predators to my knowledge so hope you are not upset at me mentioning them :p )

newlywed - you could try old fashioned cocoa, only make it with as little sugar as you can bear ( or sweeteners if you like using them ) Or I quite like the Options belgian choc one with an extra splash of milk.

rockie - glad you and OH are feeling better :)

miranda - ahhh don't worry about the red wine - could be worse, it could have been gallons or beer or summat :rotfl: today is another day !

donnygal - keep going ! you're right, it is better to have a treat like the coffeee rather than give in and stuff buns into ones face ( says she who tried this principle last week with little bits of good quality dark choc and still ended up having a mad moment of cadbury weakness :o )

mayz - I think half the joy of home made bread is the somewhat idiosyncratic size and shape of the slices :p I think part of the trick is to wait until its a day old then it will slice better ( if you're going to put it in the freezer ).

juliejim - your daughter's action gave me the best laugh I've had all morning, sorry :D hope you manage to catch up on your rest later !

katkin - awww shame you didn't enjoy your cold roast veg, I loves it I do ! might be an idea to have some kind of drressing/sauce with it - or maybe pop it into pitta with a bit of salad and some humous or sweet chilli sauce and a squeeze of lemon.

Ok well today is the one day a week I can actually indulge in my morning craving for porridge without fear of interruptions :T I'm off to make some ! No idea what the rest of the days meals will consist of but I am going to be strict with myself and use things from the freezer as I really need to get it empty.

Have a good day all !

Hi everyone, I haven't been on for a while because work has been a nightmare and when it gets like that I eat rubbish. Not too much damage done and just as I am getting back on track munching away on my weetabix, someone comes into the office with a huge tub of Celebrations!
Well done to everyone who has lost and good luck to those who are struggling, we can do it! :)
  • hope your porridge was good kitty!
I've been naughty and haven't had any breakfast!
I still feel bad after the egg and bacon sanger last night!

  • I'm sort of posting this in response to Frogga's comment about how many people read this thread - I'm one of the silent readers! I've been reading the thread with interest for a few weeks and have to say I find it very inspiring. The time has definitely come for me to take my weight in hand.

I had a bit of a shock when I weighed myself last week and I was 10st 12, the heaviest I've ever been. Not hugely overweight but a good weight for my height would be 9 1/2st. The thing is that it's gradually creeping up and I want to stop it NOW before it gets out of control. My mum was always very thin until she was about my age (late twenties) then her weight gradually crept up until she was obese in her mid-thirties and has stayed obese.

I went up a dress size very quickly a few years ago when I got together with my DH (and went on the pill - although I'm not sure if that really was a factor). Since then I thought I'd stayed about the same weight but obviously not, as a year ago I weighed around 10st. My clothes are feeling a little tight at the moment too.

So last week after the weigh-in shock I decided to cut out chocolate bars and sweets as a start. We generally eat very healthy food for meals (although I need to address my portion sizes) but I've realised that my problem is that I 'treat myself' all the time - a chocolate bar or sweets everyday, half a pack of biscuits in an afternoon:eek:. You know the sort of thing. So now I'm retraining myself to realise that those things are TREATS, just as they were when I was growing up, not staples.

I haven't had any chocolate or sweets for a week, and I'm pleased because I think I'm breaking the habit. Unfortunately I've weighed myself this morning and haven't lost any weight, but maybe I would have put on weight if I had been eating the sweets?

The next thing to cut down on is alcohol. Not that I drink excessively! But I might have a couple of glasses of wine maybe three times a week. I'm going to cut that back to once a week and really savour it.

Also to go are the chips - I give into OH's request for fish and chips about once a week at the moment, which means we have leftover chips too the next day. I've already stopped getting takeaway pizza (about 3 months ago) and now if we want pizza we make our own which we love doing and is healthier.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but it's good to set it all down in writing.

Here's my food for the day:

B: 2 weetabix with milk, coffee.
    Snack: Banana
L: Pasta with homemade tomato sauce and a little cheese, broccoli.
D: Homemade wholemeal rolls with HM veg and lentil soup.

    Clementines for further snacks.

Normally I'd have my main meal in the evening, but on Tuesdays I go out all evening so I'll have an early tea and OH will eat HM sausage casserole from the slow cooker when I'm out.

Really hoping I lose a pound or two by next week.

    Afternoon all...

better late than never..... I would like to point out that its not my fault -really :D

Got up this morning and decided that i was going out for a walk -regardless!! so..the little piggies got padded n taped up -and rammed into my trainers -amidst much complaining...and off i went..the 1st few steps hurt and then it faded into mild pain and irritation :p ....i found the nack was to keep moving... don't stop, as then it hurt when i moved again :rotfl: ..anyway i was looking for herforder strasser..that hubbies mate had given me directions to...dipstick -i now know its the other side of town:mad: ..anyway i ended up at the supermarket and by the time i got home i had been walking 2 1/2 hrs  ... by heck it was a trek :rotfl:
still both I and my trotters have recovered now -so here i am :D

sooo hello one and all :D

 frogga.... come on Mrs...you are stearing the wagon...you can do it... still 10 days to weigh in ...come on ..focus..you CAN do it...

Juliejim..oooh bless..how old is your little one? mind its eay to think "bless" when its not me she woke up in the middle of the night :rotfl:

    Mayz
I can give you the recipe..however the cutting causes no end of trouble in our house...I cut a slice..hubby then goes to get bread and has to level it up... and ends up with a slice 1" and one end and 1mm the other :rotfl: .. then i cut it next time and off we go again :o ... i like to think of it as "rustic" :p .. hubby swears by lying the loaf on its side to cut it

    Anyway....

    350ml warm water
    15g fresh yeast
    1 tsp sugar
    mix these together
    1. mix 500g strong bread flour and 2tsp salt in a big bowl..
    2. make a well in the centre and pour the yeast mix in.
    3. sprinkle the flour from around the sides over the top, and cover with a towel and leave until the liquid starts to crack through the flour
    4. put the bowl in the sink (saves mess;) )
    5. make one hand like a spider and swish around in the bowl, dragging the flour in..use the other hand to turn the bowl to make it easier...
    6. once you have got it all mixed in, get both hands in and knead...if its too sticky just throw in some more flour until it forms a smooth elastic ball.then put back in the bowl
    7. grab a carrier bag and swing around so it balloons and place over your bowl so that it wont touch the dough when it rises and leave until doubled in size..
    8. tip onto a floured worktop and knead for a few mins, then shape and place in an oiled 2lb bread tin..
    9. grab the carrier again and use like a tent over the tin...leave to rise.. about 1.5 - 2" above the top of the tin
    10. you can cut a slash lengthways if you wasnt to stop it from leaning when it bakes...but it doesn't matter..if you do -you almost just break the skin on top...
    11. and then shove in a preheated oven -gas 7..for about 30 mins..or until as dark as you like..
    12. tip it out and when you "knock" on the bottom with your knuckles it should sound hollow..
    • You can use part milk and part water if you like a softer crust.. but we like crusty and it saves on cals..
    • if you want really crusty..dissolve a little salt in hot water and when the loaf is done brush the water over the top and pop back in the oven for a couple of minutes ;)
    • you can add a knob of melted butter to the milk mix if you like..or a slug of oil... it helps keep the bread fresh for longer...but in our house there is no need :rotfl: and if you are going to slice and freeze its a waste of cals..
That recipe has taken loads of tweaking, and now never lets me down.. you may find the 1st 1 or 2 need a bit of adjusting but you will soon get to know whether you need more liquid/flour to start with..it all depends on the glutten content in the different flours ;) ...

My hubby works outside most of the time and he takes a flask of hm soup and a couple of thick slices of bread every day and he loves it.. and its amazing what goodness you can ram into them ;)

Donny-gal..... I hope shopping counts as exercise as thats all i do :rotfl: ... just think of all that reaching up and bending down to get stuff etc ;)
    well done on the loss...:T

    rockie
glad you are feeling better :D

Bobbadog.... I can't be the only one who can't stand rice cakes... they squeak when you bit them  ..they are like ceiling tiles:p

newlywed.. have you tried green + blacks choc drink? and would making it with a mug of milk help? or if you make it with water.. what about adding 1 of those little creamers as a bit of luxury? not sure what cals are in one of those..... i know the ones you mean..out here if you have hot choc it comes with about a 2" peak of whipped cream :p and biccies  .. my mum used to be obssesed :rotfl: ..mind she always ate the cream with a spoon 1st :D

Kittyscarlett..... you just lost your cash :rotfl: .... im running, well hobbling late today :p . Hope you enjoy your uninterupted porridge... i had that for dinner last night :rotfl:

hi floyd, glad all is well with you... you will get back into the swing of things in no time ;)

well thats covered everyone i think..

ohhh nearly... Hello Taplady :D ..your post got moved to the other thread with cute n quirkies post... but i found you there ;) hope you are having a good day:D

well...i had weetabix for brekkie and i warmed my milk up...won't be doing tht agin in a hurry :rotfl: , they were OK... but not my kind of thing!

After hearing of folks punching new holes in belts i dragged 3 pairs of trousers out of my wardrobe-that i have never got in... and i can get them on without undoing them :j ..one of my newest long cheesecloth skirts i had for my summer jolly, slides down to my belly button :D and another skirt now drags on the floor as it doesn't have as far to go over my belly :D .. sooo all in all last night was a good one !!!

the one down point was..i opened my much longed for tub of krautsalat, had one forkfull and had to spit it out  ... i have lost the taste for it..it was soooo sweet it was unreal... a bit like eating coleslaw with a spoon of sugar on every forkfull..im gutted...

hubby has just rung..and we have decided to go to the bowling alley tonight and if he isn't needed to bowl in the league..we are going to bowl..so these little trotters will be receiving more punishment :rotfl:

well now i have just about caught up i had better get off..

keep up the good work everone...:D

    Afternoon all,

Cold today....Frogga stop wishing tummy bug on yourself, you'll be sorry if your wish comes true!

Mrs MC mind those piggies...once they have healed a little methylated spirit rubbed in will help to toughen the skin...although nowadays you have to sign for meths here...I needed some for a spirit stove and wash shocked at that and the price!

Meanymoo...don't mind that mad oul frog, I think that you are being very sensible, cutting out non-essentials is a really good idea, if your weight gain has been gradual you will get rid of it gradually with that.

THis morning I had fruit and fibre cereal with added raisins and walnuts and coffee...not sure what's for dinner, lunch will be soup as there is some made.

    Good luck everybody

    Marie.

Thanks mrsm, will look out for green and black's. I guess on the weight loss stakes I'm quite fortunate that I don't like cream :p I just like the thick chocolatey bit without any cream on top ;)

Well done for the trousers! Spurred on by my new hole in my belt, I weighed myself today and have lost some more!! My BMI is now 24.4 although there's still more to go ;) I've lost nearly 20bls now! :D Planning to try on some more clothes this weekend and see whether it shows ;)
