Obviously just waiting not to get my refund from atlaschoice, I hastily booked a car through firefly, the company at atlas hire was through also though better to deal with the actual co. And not a broker this time, unfortunately I counldnt find there cancellation policy anywhere on there site only a bit saying cancellation is allowed. So booked, nearly double the atlas price, only to find that there policy is that if you cancel 5 days or more before the hire they will charge you 50% plus £30 admin bit extreme. But hey this is all a lesson learned hopefully I get the cash back from atlas

Best that you cancelled, as you don't have to wait until next summer to chase it up. You have a cancellation email as confirmation, so can chase that up with your CC provider after a reasonable amount of time has elapsed.
As to paying more than double direct with FireFly.... that doesn't sound like money saving. Shame on you.

Agreed with the fact a can wait a reasonable amount of time then chase the co. But double the price direct with firefly was the same as going throughtnany broker I checked. Only difference the brokered were free cancellation

I was sceptical about your reading of their cancellation policy. I guessed it stated less than five days, as opposed to more than 5 days.

I see it was with Firefly in France. They definitely have differing rules as compared to other European countries.
But perhaps you quote the fees for cancellation over the phone.

What exactly is the location involved and the booking dates?

We had £239 taken out of credit card account without our authority the other day. check with cc who said it was Peel Car and Truck Rental. We had prepaid car hire via atlas choice for September 2016 so had car and handed back all fine then this!! Called Peel who says atlas have not paid them so they took the money from us. This is now 3 months later. We are so upset and angry as this took us overlimit with cc. We have to call cc when they re=open after hols so we will see what they say but surely Peel are at fault for taking this money without our knowledge or authorisation. Their issue is with atlas choice surely.

any help and advice is appreciated.
  • Sorry to everyone effected by Atlas Choice. What a bunch of cowboys! Them advising everybody to file chargebacks to their credit card company shows what a bunch of conmen they are! Surely this is bordering on illegal and certainly morally wrong! Expecting the banks and then ultimately all consumers to settle their debts - its an abuse of the chargeback system, don't you agree?

It's is carcassone France and 21/06/17.
It defiantly said that 5 days or more before rental it was 50% plus a admin fee.
5 days or less before rental you pay the full amount

I tried to recreate your booking. The only option that I am offered are non prepaid rates, for which there is no cancellation fee.
Please remember that this is a non prepaid rate, which means you will pay your rental charges, including any extras booked online, at the rental location.

Only the prepaid rates have that 56€ seven days after booking cancellation fee.

So where exactly have you seen the charge that you have quoted here?

Your CC provider will not accept that you pay a charge which is not covered by existing T&C.

Hertz state there is no charge and there is no charge indicated on the Global FireFly website.

At the end of November 2016, I went on to the Travelsupermarket, com website part of Moneysupermaket ( same as MSE) to search for hire cars in Tenerife for March 2017. I chose Atlaschoice as it seemed good value and must be a reputable company as it was on the Travelsupermarket website. I wouldn’t normally have used a broker or car hire agent site like this.

Just before Christmas I looked at the MSE newsletter and my eye was drawn to an item about Atlaschoice not honouring bookings made, and not offering refunds. I looked at their website, and it confirmed these facts, and suggested you approach the car hire company. I did this and they replied that “beyond their control they no longer worked with Atlaschoice and could not honour my booking”.

I am disappointed with Travelsupermarket over Atlaschoice and MSE over Crown currency saga 3 or 4 years ago, where a lot of people lost their money.
These comparison websites seem to be keen to take commission and charges, however, when their sites run into difficulties they don’t want to offer any refunds or help.
A quote from the Guardian . “A TravelSupermarket spokeswoman told the Guardian that it pulled Atlas Choice from its listings three weeks ago when Atlaschoice missed a payment and couldn’t be reached.”

My booking was for £60 as it was for 5 days – so I don’t think Section 75 of the credit card act will cover this as there is a £100 limit for some reason.
I thought these sites were people’s champions – I think this best moto is to avoid comparison sites completely! I know I will.
  • Hello
I had the same request today for a September booking I made with Atlas, managed to stop the transaction with the CC company.
They put the transaction onto pending and blocked the rental company. £340 in total.
    Thanks
