  • Hmmmm got this today from them as we rented with them also and got this today. Unbelievable as we came, we drove and we returned. No chance. Credit card cancelled. Your choice.

    Dear Customer,

this summer you rented a car through Atlaschoice and Target Rent with Ecovia/Autovia company.
    -The booking number is
    -The confirmation number
-The Rental Agreement subscripted with Autovia /Ecovia

We are sorry to inform you that we have to charge the cost of rental voucher from your credit card.

Infact, Evershine Travel Limited t/as Atlas Choice which the issuer of the rental voucher, officially communicated us, his state of insolvency.

We would like to inform you that this charge is based on § 5.7 of your signed rental agreement “The Customer providing for the hire payment by prepaid voucher is jointly obliged with the institution issuing the voucher, to pay each sum due by contract in case of a total or partial credit unrecoverability”.

Please, to clarify on your rental voucher , we forward you the issue contact of Atlaschoice company which is care@atlaschoice.com , excess.support@atlaschoice.com, which, for transparency of policy of our companies, we are putting in copy on this communication.

    Phone numbers are 0844 482 49 73, 0800 673 8188, +44 (0) 2083 26 36 59

    Best regards,

  • Once I got a ticket abroad and the hire company not only gave my details to the ticket folks but also charged me over 30 pounds for the privilege. It may be a wise thing to lose the credit card you paid for the hire car with as they are quoting small print which I doubt any of us read and getting us to pay twice for. Atlas Choice appears to be in insolvency or their mother company so will be trying to claw back money any way they can. Don't make your card available for them.

I suggest the same but if you have or end up being charged twice (once by the hire firm, once by Atlas Choice) and you paid by credit card (likely) be sure to claim against your credit card company. If the Voucher from Atlas Choice was not paid to the hite company then they have failed to provide the service you paid for. Insolvent or not, the credit card company is jointly liable and will have to refund you. The hiring company may try to say that you accepted the charge (by accepting the terms and conditions) and you recieved the service but you didn't recieve the service from both organisations so you should not have to pay twice.

My advice would be too always book car hire direct not through agents. Easier to say in hindsight, I appreciate....
  • I've had the same issue although Green Motion in Zakynthos decided it was ok to take the money at the same time they told me. It's a shame as I've dealt with Atlas Choice in he past without issue. I paid by Barclaycard to give myself extra cover in case something like this happened. They've sent me the forms to begin the process of reclaiming the money, it's just a pain really. I agree that they weren't authorised to take payment under these circumstances facing previously lifted the pre-authorisation. That itself was only there to cover theft of or damage to the vehicle and not this sort of thing.
  • Same issue as you guys, got an email from Target-Autovia (the rent-a-car in Rimini), stating that Atlas Choice was in default and they would debit my credit card. They rely on the § of the contract I signed at car reception: “The Customer providing for the hire payment by prepaid voucher is jointly obliged with the institution issuing the voucher, to pay each sum due by contract in case of a total or partial credit unrecoverability”. The same day they debited my MasterCard with 235 EUR. So I paid two times as five month ago Atlas Choice got the prepaid amount (245 EUR). It's important to mention that I booked the car with a German provider biller-mietwagen.de who chose Atlas Choice as the broker. I wrote today to the German provider asking a reimbursement as they are responsible for the relation wir AC. Without positive answer, my next step will be to submit the affair to the European Consumer Centre

The use of a premium rate 0844 number for after-sales enquires and issues breaches an EU Directive and the subsequent UK consumer protection regulations.

Additionally, failing to state the call costs alongside the 0844 number also breaches Ofcom regulations and ASA rules.

    Dear Matteo,

As you may be aware the Company has been experiencing trading difficulties and we are currently working towards solutions to these problems.
Accordingly, we are proposing the following short term arrangement in order to maintain our trading relationship.

In return for you honouring car rental pickups in respect of vouchers issued by the Company for the period from 12 December to 19 December 2016, the Company undertakes to make a direct pre-payment (via bank transfer) for these bookings.

Please note that payments made under this arrangements cannot be allocated to any liability to you arising prior to 12 December 2016.

Please respond to this email confirming you agree to the terms,

    Kind Regards
    Gosia

  • Atlaschoice torpedoed our car hire in Perth.....

After 26 hours of travelling from Manchester to Perth, Western Australia we arrived weary but glad to see our friends in Sunday 18 December.

But when we went to the Thrifty car rental desk that very apologetically told us that Thrifty had failed to pay their account or 3 months so our car hire - which we booked with Atlaschoice in May and completed the final payment in November - was not paid for.

The very helpful and apologetic guy on the desk rented us the same vehicle we had already paid for, and showed us a string of emails between Thrifty and Atlaschoice demanding payment. But nothing has been paid

After such a long journey the last thing we needed was to be conned by Atlaschoice, and take an hour to sort out their mess and book the same car direct with Thrifty.

To add insult the next morning we received from Atlaschoice an advertising email offering us a great deal.......Perhaps they meant hassle?!? No mention that they are insolvent and failing their customers and suppliers.

We emailed them that morning but, not surprisinlgy, no response. So far we are £600+ out of pocket and very annoyed.

Shame we don't have a legal requirement for an nsolvent company to declare their difficulties.....instead they continue yo take customers money and not pay their suppliers for the rental.

Good news is it's sunny and warm on the beach in Perth!

Just another one to add to the list. Booked a hire car in Cyprus for a week, picking up Christmas Eve. Was called by the local car hire company saying they had not been paid (thankfully we found this out before we got there!).
No reply from Atlas at all, they are responding to tweets but only saying 'email us' (and they never reply). No answer on phone.
We're about £80 out of pocket but appreciate others are far worse. We've booked with Avis now who are expensive but at least I'm pretty sure they'll be there!
Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

  • Had the same thing. Paid Atlas Choice £250+ by credit card in January! Had a message from Noleggiare (the car hire firm) that they have charged almost the same amount today from my debit card because of a non-payment by AtlasChoice. Despite the obvious anger/frustration/inconvenience, I'm particularly baffled by the following:

    1. That AtlasChoice are clearly still taking bookings via their website, and their 'party line' if you're ever able to get through on the phone, is that they've paid all their suppliers and are in no difficulty and trading as normal. Clearly outright lies.

    2. How do Noleggiare have the right to charge the debit card I only gave to them as collateral against damage to the hire car? That card/account has nothing to do with the original booking. Surely I only gave them permission to put a transaction stamp on it for the purpose of the refundable deposit against damages, which was released and dealt with upon return of the vehicle!

    3. How can this happen almost 1 year after the initial payment was made? If there's been a problem with credit with Atlas Choice for a year then Noleggiare have let it get waaaay out of hand. Unless the problems have only started recently and they're recouping costs of current issues from old transactions like mine. If Noleggiare had not received payment for my January booking when I picked up the vehicle in July, then I'd expect them to at least have flagged this at the time, rather than let it roll on another 6 months later.

No doubt Messrs Mohammad Jawed Karim, Mohammad Fahim Karim and Mohammad Basser Karim who direct Evershine Travel Limited have skimmed off plenty of the £25.8 million turnover and £800,000 of assets their company had this time last year (https://www.duedil.com/company/03115723/evershine-travel-limited) before the !!!!!! hit the fan and people like us have been left funding their debts.
