Interesting, I have 2 x Aoboet batteries could i just add two pylontec batteries to the mix ? They look exactly the same and are the same type and specification ?

    I've been told they're not cross-compatible.
Damn then I need to see where i can source another pair, seems right though as i read that they appear to be able to discharge to a lower rate than some others. But I’ll need to find some then.
According to the blurb, you should be getting a max of 3.5kw charge/discharge with 2 of those batteries.
With 2 Pylontechs, you would only get 2.4kw.

sent email to Homeswitch asking if they can sell me 2 batteries to add on to my current 4.8kw which I think will be good for requirements going forward.

do check ebay - i'm seeing new pylon 2.4s for £720-£730 if you put in an offer and that's without hunting weeks on weeks for a deal. I got a quote from the everchanging list of companies (flavour of month homeswitch) and despite stating they are sole distributors / importers have a substantially higher price.
    5.41 kWp System, E-W. Installed Nov 2017
    Lux + 3 x US2000B + 2 x US3000C battery storage. Installed Mar 2020.

He's got Aoboets which you can't mix with Pylontechs.

EVandPV yeah I have about 8" of snow, I'm getting zero solar today
Seriously tempted to buy a telescopic brush !!

I bought one a couple of years ago to try and wash the roof panels, 10m and it still struggled, and what a pain trying to manipulate it as all the weight is 10m from you.

Also when the snow is about you don't tent to get much solar tbh, as its quite overcast

agreed about the weight as the amount of days that you would lose solar due to snow if it isn't actually snowing is probably not that many ? Today in Lochinver I had the best solar production since I had the install which was 20.8kWh :) I notice when it keeps capping at 3.5kW does that mean on a warm sunny day if I have 10 hours of sun I will always only get 35kw production as the most it will do ? just trying to understand how it works on the lux

It's not the lux that's capping, it's your solar.
Most solar systems cap at 16a or 3.6kw regardless of how many panels, as its easy to get that certification from the dno..

But yeah if you are capped at 3.6 then the most you could really see in a day would be 30-40kwh

can that cap be raised ? and how would I go about it but im also thinking if the lux is only 3.6 its still going to be 3.6

So if in theory you contacted the dno and asked to add more panels and another inverter and they said yes, you could get let's say 7kw at once, the lux will show that 7kw, but will still only be able to eat 3.6kw of it for your batteries

would a DNO allow that to be raised ? and then how would I go about raising that limit as it currently stands ? would I need another inverter or could I use my current Lux to power the house with 3.6 and charge my battery at the same time with 3.6

Ooft, well let's be honest, you are on potentially dodgy territory already with the lux,  because in theory it could output 3.6kw just as your solar was putting out 3.6kw and so you would be exporting 7.2kw, which is above the 3.6kw you are certified for.
You would need another inverter, as its your inverter which will be limiting your solar.

So you could contact Scottish Power and have a chat to them about increasing your allowed export.

I have a "friend" who did that a couple of years ago, and right off the bat the dno said that southern Scotland,  the area we are both in as far as the dno is concerned, is already red for generation,  and so you are very unlikely to be accepted.
So it was just left there.
