Noticed here that Moixa have released new 7.2kWh or 9.6kWh Battery Systems.
But curiously have gone down the Pylontech battery route for these ones. The 7.2kWh & 9.6kWh Battery Systems are made up of a Moixa Hub, Pylontech Battery Modules and a Victron Inverter.
9.6kWh - £5,950
7.2kWh - £4,950
in addition to their existing standlaone/single unit product (4.8kWh for £3,950)

Yikes. their 'early bird pricing' is >30% pricier than the quotes i've received for a 7.2kw pylontech + lux fully installed.5.41 kWp System, E-W. Installed Nov 2017

Those 'smarts' cost a lot!! :rotfl:
Seriously, I really need someone to create some brains / app / box that can sit in front of an inverter / pylontech combo.
Just enough smarts to connect to the Octopus API so that you can automatically charge when below a certain price through the night.
Something more than just on/off.
Pipedream?
Power Vault are releasing something along those lines, but you're looking at £6k for 4kWh or something in that ballpark.17 x 300W panels (5.1kW) on a 3.68kW SolarEdge system in Sunny Sheffield.

I'm just waiting to get put on Octopus Go which will just be a case off setting an ac charging schedule from 12.30 to 4.30am at 5p kwh.
I'm not convinced Agile would work out cheaper in our area.Scott in Fife, 2.9kwp pv SSW facing, 2.7kw Fronius inverter installed Jan 2012 - 14.3kwh Seplos Mason battery storage with Lux ac controller - Renault Zoe 40kwh, Corsa-e 50kwh, Zappi EV charger and Octopus Go0 -

Extract from this week's Carbon Commentary newsletter:10, Virtual power plants. Sonnen, the battery subsidiary of Shell, said that it had received approval to run 100 of its domestic systems in the UK as a ‘virtual power plant’ (VPP) bidding to take or receive electricity to stabilise the AC frequency of the grid. It uses Centrica’s Flexpond software. Centrica is also a shareholder in Mixergy, which announced a new fund-raising to help it roll out its intelligent hot water tanks in the UK. These tanks are also authorised to function as a VPP, enabling owners to benefit from payments from the UK grid for responding to requests to turn power demand up or down.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Someone just posted this on the Navitron forum ...... https://github.com/celsworth/octolux

eeeek, that's super exciting.... wonder if that could be ported to Home Assistant....... will go take a look.
I'd obviously prefer a supported manufacturer built solution, but this is a start.17 x 300W panels (5.1kW) on a 3.68kW SolarEdge system in Sunny Sheffield.

Is the Tesla Powerwall the only battery than can be mounted on the outside of the house? Or are there others?
They can all be...
...in an enclosure ;-) Not hard to get something knocked up to hang over them, if only just to keep the snow/rain/dust off. Ive recommended friends with EV chargers to get a small enclosure mounted around/over them if only to not need to clear snow off (my camper charge point is in my front porch for the same reason).
I would be very wary of the whole idea of installing outside the house thing. Have a look at the operating specs first as you might find certain batteries will spend some time conditioning/heating themselves if placed outside on a cold facing wall during winter or maybe go over ideal specs when hit by the sun during summer etc.
I could have put my pylontechs in my garage or studio but the best operating specs are around 17-21C so front room it was (excess heat can be put back into the room for heating etc).
Manufacturers are great at mentioning operating ranges but if you drill down into the small print of the data sheets and more importantly warranty info you will see the recommended/guaranteed temperature ranges which will be significantly different.
So in answer, yes they can be put outside but would you really want to? Thats really an individual answer.0 -

Do Pylons put out much heat when charging/discharging ?Scott in Fife, 2.9kwp pv SSW facing, 2.7kw Fronius inverter installed Jan 2012 - 14.3kwh Seplos Mason battery storage with Lux ac controller - Renault Zoe 40kwh, Corsa-e 50kwh, Zappi EV charger and Octopus Go0 -

When you have little to zero space inside the house anywhere remotely close to the fusebox and solar inverter.... then yep, i'm considering all options for a battery.17 x 300W panels (5.1kW) on a 3.68kW SolarEdge system in Sunny Sheffield.

I have ours in the understairs cupboard where it's a pretty constant 18°C.
