    Here's a random query.
Can you have your battery export to grid certain times of day if you had a LUX inverter?
Scenario - you're on Agile octopus for import and export. They pay you the same rates for export as for import. So, in theory, you have peak rates 4-7pm at over 20p/kwh which you can capitalise on if on a export guarantee tariff instead of FIT which could earn you a decent buck if you pump out 7kwh (or whatever your battery capacity is) during this window.

Just wondering whether the battery system would only let out what your house is consuming, gather than push out excess that you'd export?

They don't pay you the same for export as they charge for import.

    Max normally is around 13p/unit.

If it was 25p/unit I think we'd all be after it!! :D

As far as I'm aware though, you can't be with Octopus for import and export, only one or the other.

    Yes you can.

You can be on Agile import and Agile export.

But you can't be on Go for import and Agile for export.

Ah, thought there was some kind of restriction but wasn't sure if it applied to both Go and Agile.
    Cheers.

ah this is a super useful correction, thanks!

so, if we skip solar for now in calculations, if you had a 7kwh battery you could potentially charge for 14p overnight and make 70p exporting during peak.

    not really worth it...

You'd also have to factor in an 18% round trip loss if you fully charged/discharged the battery.

    Those with multiple Pylontech batteries.

Can you just stack them directly on top of each other?

I have 4 together but instead of brackets just made a temporary wooden frame using 2x1.

Main weight bearing full length down the depth of the batteries with vertical sections near the screw points at front and back to stabilise. Larger width extensions at the back with gaps for cable tidying etc with cross pieces. No cross pieces at the front as screwed in using the rack mount holes.

Looking from the side it looks like a small ladder.
Each battery is from memory about 25kg so 4 is probably the max.

When I had just the two I used 6 2p pieces taped together as spacers (x4, one in each corner) between them and between bottom one and floor.
Temporary measure that lasted a year ;-)

    Come on Joe..... photos!!! :rotfl:

I like the 6 x 2p idea..... 48p is certainly more palatable than £40 per bracket!

  • I see that the Government have now brought forward their ban on the sales of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars to 2035.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-51366123

"A ban on selling new petrol, diesel or hybrid cars in the UK will be brought forward from 2040 to 2035 at the latest, under government plans.

The change comes after experts said 2040 would be too late if the UK wants to achieve its target of emitting virtually zero carbon by 2050.

Boris Johnson unveiled the policy as part of a launch event for a United Nations climate summit in November.

He said 2020 would be a "defining year of climate action" for the planet."

    Yeah ;-)
Id say 2 is probably the safest limit for that sort of thing ;-)

Both are 'temporary' measures as the final aim is to source a glass fronted server cabinet at auction sometime. They do come up occasionally for reasonable money at liquidation sales and the pylontechs fit a standard rack. You can get cheap versions of them for a hundred quid or two but 2nd hand proper quality ones are much better if you can source them.

I just wanted to wait to see which size of one I needed when I finally finished adding batteries (which I have now).

When I get the server cabinet I will also finally get my act together with putting together a home media server and use that as the base for it as well as relocating my router and lan hubs.
