I'd love to join ,,,
I'm a pretty good saver, but , blimey some of you are amazing at it !
Some of you must have big incomes ,, I sadly don't , I'm canny with money and can put it away , I'm not brilliant at making more, I'd rather get rid of stuff to the charity shop or else if I have photograph for eBay I will end up keeping things ,, terrible hoarder ,,
So tips on other ways to boost savings are well received,,,,:money: I will never be rich but I'm happy :rotfl:0 -
Just got around to completing my form for January. I was quite surprised (in a good way!) that I managed to save £541.67 (literally counting the pennies!).
That's a decent chunk of my £4000 target achieved already and I'm feeling positive about this whole saving thing! I hope to come back just as optimistic once February is overSave 12k in 2017 Challenger 141: £1239.22/£4000 (31%!)0 -
loveasale - I'm usually awful at saving too but I'm determined to save up a house deposit. I've opened a new account and spent yesterday ringing round everywhere getting all of my income paid into that. I've then set up lots of standing orders, to a Help2Buy ISA, monthly saver, rent, Park (for Christmas), council tax and spending money into my old current account for food etc every week. There should be some excess left over in the new account which is my Savings account #3 as it has 3% interest. This should also avoid any direct debits going back and therefore avoiding any bank charges.
It's totally flipped my way of handling money and I'm really hoping that I manage to stick to it, but so far so good!Debt Free in 2017 - £0/£3,278

Good for you sezamma. It takes a bit of time to get things running, but you sound as though you have a great plan of action
. All the best with your saving

I had reported that I was going to skip savings this month as I had a number of expenses coming in (car service & mot in particular) but I had a lovely surprise in yesterday's post. I'd signed up to a savings/health insurance scheme (for promotion of female healthcare) whereby, if I didn't claim during the term of the policy, my payments would be returned to me. 15 years later (where did that time go?!) and they've just paid a little over £1000 to me!
I've split the monies, £400 into long term savings, £400 into short term savings (car fund) and £265 towards this months expenses and, as it's my birthday tomorrow, maybe a little shopping spree!

I would love to do this challenge and have followed on and off for years. I just don't have the confidence to even know where to start. I do not have debts except a mortgage. But could really do with building up savings.0

Perhaps choose a low amount to save and then see if you can smash it.
My aim is a low £1500. for the year. However, I'm am hoping to save considerably more than that.
I think joining this group helps you focus upon saving.
There's an old saying. "Save it you've got it, spend it you've had it!"0
