I'm with Telewest for broadband and when they upgrade my area so I get a higher upload speed I will be dropping my BT landline.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
  • Can anyone confirm if you can use a Sip phone/ATA to receive calls from a service provider (e.g. Sipgate) and make outgoing calls to a different service provider (e.g. VoIPBuster) on the same equipment. If so, how (in general) do you configure these options?

    Many thanks

  • Oh dear, I just bought a Grandstream Handyphone 486 on ebay for £30. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5818242531

I'd advise you to use either Voipbuster to make outgoing calls and SIPgate to recieve them. This is because it's free to ring most landlines using VoIPbuster whereas if you ring these numbers using SIpgate there is a penny/minute charge.

I want to do the above, I have signed up and got a sipgate account and number and I have downloaded VOIPBUSTER and X-LITE. I have bulldog broadband with Netgear wireless router.
I have now got a phone adaptor linksys pap2-eu (unlocked) and pluged a phone into this. I have followed a guide and connected it all up, my router can see it connected to 192.168.0.4
I have opened this page in int explorer and can see all the settings.
Does anyone know configure this so I can do the above.

    Any help would be great

    Thanks

I found the info here http://forums.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=3105&PN=1

I put VOIPBuster on line 1 (free calls) and sipgate on line 2 (free local number to recieve calls)
  • I have recently been trying VoIPCheap http://www.voipcheap.co.uk THis gives free UK calls to landlines and in addition free to places such as France, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Australia and America. Mobile calls to America are also free.

Most of my international calls have been to Switzerland, and although this is charged its rate is 0.5p/min. The call quality so far has been very good with minimal cut offs.

In order to take advantage of this service you have to purchase an initial £5 worth of calls. For me I think that that is a small price to pay to take advantage of the free UK calls alone as wells many free world wide calls.

I agree been using this fine. You get disconnected after 60 minutes on free calls, just redial.

Anyone got this working with a ATA I'd love to be able to use this WITHOUT a PC so if somehas got this working with a cheap ATA please let me know.

Doesn't work with an ATA I'm afraid, only their own software. Their sister services voipbuster.com and sipdiscount.com however do work with an ATA.

SIPDiscount is the one I use with my LinkSys PAP2 ATA, as that offers free calls to the UK in addition too several other destinations.

I have been using VOIPCheap for a few weeks and find it better than Skype, Saved me money..I was using 18866. If you fund the account with £5.00 you do not get cut off after 60 secs. I use this + msn messenger for video conferences ..does anyone know of software to have a three-way video conference? Keep up the good work on this site..this is what the "net" should be about!
