Just an update for any ex-customers waiting for money back. Had a chat with someone at GB just now, who told me that they're not currently issuing refunds as they're waiting for Co-op to authorise that process to begin. They expect this to happen within the next two weeks.

I'm not expecting refunds as Co-op have taken over GB as a 'going concern', I would have thought any credit would be carried over. Doesn't stop you demanding one if there's a stupid amount of credit, I'm amazed how many have let hundreds rack up.

I'm in no hurry to reinstate my DD. I'm a bit in credit and fancy a slight payment holiday ;) - plus they haven't ask me yet to do so yet. The money is always better in your pocket.

Yes. I did. Not received an email yet. But I did set up a new one online.

    Thanks for this.

I received no email to set one up but once I logged in I was asked if I wanted to.

Set the DD up two days ago and its now showing for two weeks time.

    Great work
  • I also had a D/D payment taken from my bank account on Monday 28/11/16. I have now check my GB Energy account and it's not showing. I looked back at previous D/D going in and it normally takes 5 working days, I will check again on Monday 05/12/16, hopefully it will be showing.

I checked my account today and the payment is not showing. Phoned GB Energy they stated the credit will be added to my account but it may take 10 days or so I have no problem with that.

    Update.

I have checked my GB Energy account and the D/D payment is now showing.

PS Even if GB had gone into full liquidation/insolvency, the Receiver would have been after you for repayment in full.

And the chances of them succeeding? Slim to none.

I rate the probability far higher than those who owe GB money, have cancelled their DD .................. and anticipate their attempt to transfer to another supplier going through without being blocked.

Yes, I was doubtful that I'd see the money again, and I'm still a bit wary, but all the signs seem fairly positive right now. ofgem and GB have both explicitly stated that the refunds will happen eventually.

Unfortunately the timing of this at the end of summer was such that almost all customers had at least some credit, especially as GB seem to have be rather "generous" with their DD calculations. I would imagine that the refund pot is quite substantial. Fingers crossed.

I'm also an ex-customer with owed credit and was just told the same thing about waiting 2 weeks although the fact that this time last week I was told to call back in 7 days doesn't fill me with confidence. In 2 weeks time will we be told to wait again? (Rhetorical question obviously but makes me wonder how drawn out the process could be)
  • Could do with this being tied up soon as my deal ends at the beginning of January.
  • I arranged to transfer my energy to another supplier the day gefore GB went bust. I tried to pay £18 which I owed on my account but when I phoned there was just an automated message informing me GB are no longer trading. My energy switch has been prevented due to money I owe but apparently I cannot pay this to Co op energy. Do they have the right to prevent me switching providers when No-one will accept payment of what I owe?

Your post doesn't really compute. If you started the transfer just 2 weeks ago how do you have a final bill / agreed liability within 2 weeks when GB Energy have been on the canvas part of that time?

Yes they can - and will - block the transfer in respect of money owing. But it's unlikely for £18 ........... which GB Energy / Co-Op are now in a position to take.

Add some detail as it doesn't stack up currently?

Agreed, OFGEM did say at the time that all switch applications prior to GB going 'bust' would go through and, I agree, £18 of debt isn't enough for any supplier to apply a block. My transfer is progressing but I did apply to switch 14 days earlier. My guess is that I am going to have to wait a while for a Final Bill.
