MSE News: GB Energy goes bust, 160,000 customers affected

Hi there. No I'm not going to take them to court, they can take me. You're right, I'd have no chance the other way around. If I don't pay the full amount -- if they ask for it at the new tariff -- they'll no doubt chase me for the so called debt, and I'll let it go to court. I'm very happy to pay them what I owe, but not a penny more. Why should I?
As for how much, I don't know, because I haven't had any bills/statements from them at all, and as yet, I still haven't switched. My estimated switch date according to First Utility -- who I'm switching to -- is the 21st december. But if GB(Coop) drag their heals or block it, then I don't know the date, and my consumption under GB will continue to rise.
I haven't heard anything at all from the Coop since the 29th November, when they sent me an email to say they were now my supplier, -- after I cancelled my GB DD, on the 28th November.
Does anyone know when the Coop are supposed to be getting in touch with GB customers again?0 -
I rang GB energy and they hoped they might get in touch by the middle of next week but they didn't sound convinced!0

Well that's a coincidence. No sooner do I wonder when I'm going to here from the Coop, than they send me an email about my cancelled GBe DD.
They've given me 14 days to resinstate my DD, or they "may" put me on their most expensive variable tariff, which they reckon, is dearer than the one I'm on now. But since I'm on the variable tariff that GBe whacked 30% onto -- without informing me --, I actually think it will be cheaper. lol.0 -

As it said in their email of 29/11 :
We are developing more detailed plans, working closely with Ofgem, and we will contact you again before 15th December 2016 with an update on our progress.
They're probably a few days late because of having to contact all the people who cancelled DDs ... etc??If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Things are moving finally - my credit refund of £240 unexpectedly showed up in my account today.0

More progress: a notice of the administration (i.e. formal insolvency) of GB Energy Supply Ltd has been filed at Companies House. The administration started on 6 December, and the accountancy firm handling the administration is BDO. Normally the administrators would have to write to those who are owed money - but if the Coop are going to sort out credit balances soon presumably they will not have to.
The GB website (including the terms and conditions) still does not show the name of the company which is the new supplier, but hopefully that will be rectified soon. According to the emails we have been getting from the Co-op we are now dealing with the Midcounties Co-operative Ltd (using the trading name Co-operative Energy), and not Co-operative Energy Ltd.0 -
Received the following in an email last night
"An update from Co-operative Energy for fixed tariff customers
As you are currently on a fixed tariff contract, I would like to reassure you, you can sit back and relax in the knowledge that you do not need to do anything.
As a GB Energy account holder, on an existing fixed rate tariff, we have agreed with Ofgem we will honour your current contract and price until it is due to expire.
Many energy suppliers have had to withdraw their cheaper fixed rate tariffs and replace with higher priced fixed rate tariffs, due to a recent increase in wholesale prices. This means your existing GB Energy tariff is very competitive in the current market place giving you peace of mind and you can continue to enjoy the price of your tariff.
We will contact you again before your current tariff expires with all the information you need to make an informed decision on what to do next.
Tariff terms and conditions
You will be aware that it is a requirement of your tariff that you make your payments by Direct Debit. Please ensure you continue to make your payments by Direct Debit as normal. If you fail to comply with the tariff terms and conditions, we may transfer you to our Pay on Receipt of Bill standard variable rate tariff. The unit charge on this tariff is higher than your current tariff.
In the meantime, please be reassured that it is business as usual.
Thank you in advance for your patience and we look forward to being your energy provider.
Yours sincerely,
Ben Reid OBE
