Yes, but it cost me nearly £20 to make this one, cos I used a lot of lamb steak, so I don't really want to go and buy more!
Thanks anyway. I'm trying the potato idea at the moment.0 -
OH uses sugar - just the bog standard granulated stuff - to cool the chilli down as I have a very weak palate.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0

Hi all,
I made a spicy beef casserole and have some leftover - is there any way I can 'cool' the spice down for my toddler to enjoy?
Thanks

Sugar can neutralise hot spice to an extent, fruit sugar (so, a spoonful of jam or mango chutney or the like) even better.0

If it were a curry I'd say natural yogurt, but as it's a casserole I'd say a drop of cream or creme fraiche.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

Hi treacle,
I usually add some yoghurt or pad it out with extra veg or tinned tomatoes to 'dilute' the spices.
There's an earlier thread that should help so I'll add your post to it to keep the replies together.

DS has made chicken tikka masala for tea tonight, but has gone way overboard on the spices! I had a tiny taste of it when he served it up for his younger brother and sister and it burned a hole from lips down my throat and needless to say neither of the kids would touch it.
He is going to be dishing it up for me and OH when he gets home in about an hour. Any ideas what could be done to tone it down a bit? We don't have any coconut milk or creamed coconut in which would be my usual tip, and he's already used all the cream in the dish. We do have about half a tub of natural yoghurt though. And most common store cupboard ingredients.
Ideas please as I don't want to hurt his feelings but there is no way I can eat any of this tonight!0 -
yoghurt will cool it down, I love spice but it doesn't love me back, so I'll often spoon natural yoghurt on top of curry or chilli that's a bit heat heavy0

and I believe a glass of milk is supposed to heal the tongue after a spice hit too0
