  • CQ, definately, chilli's are also addictive, I'm convinced. I just couldn't get enough of Thai curries, and y'know the hot Tom Yum soup etc last year. The more you eat, the more you want...yummy but not good for dieting!

I read somewhere chilli really is addictive, something to do with the chemicals it releases in your brain :S

Hi, I hope some one can help me!

I have friends coming to supper tomorrow night, and I'm trying to be organised, so I've made a lamb tagine (a Moroccan stew)this morning, but I must have put too much chilli powder in, because it's way too hot! I seem to remember reading somewhere that you can put a potato in with it to soak up some of the excess chilli, but I don't know whether it should be raw, and whether or not it works!

Does anyone have any good ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

  • I usually use a raw potato dropped in to cure a salt overdose , but suppose this should work for chilli too!

  • scoop a little bit out into a cup, add a splash of fresh orange juice and then mix well, taste it to see if it has decreased the heat, then add oj to the big pan. I find this works 90% of the time but on some dishes it doesnt work.
  • hi,
you could try diluting the hotness by adding a can of chopped tomatoes, or two if it's that hot!
You could also try to increase the sweetness of the tagine, which would help to balance the chilli, by adding sultanas, dried apricots or honey.
Maybe serve with greek yogurt, to make it eat less hot.
  • Potato is good - you could also add some Yoghurt !
    To infinity and beyond!

Coconut milk works well. You can buy it in blocks and grate in as much as you need.

Stupid idea, but you could make another one. add them together and then half it, and freeze the half and eat it later.
