Catalogue to improve credit rating?

How easy is it to get a catalogue? Does it improve credit rating?

  • A credit card would be a far better, and cheaper, idea.

You might want to read some of the threads firther down the page.

The score isnt relevant, as ive said in some of them threads the credit scores/ratings are about as useful as the english FA.

A credit card ith a decent apr would be a decent option.

It's very easy to get a catalogue - easier than other forms of credit - and provided you make on-time payments it will improve your ability to get credit in the future.

I appreciate your answer, this is not an answer to the question i have asked. I'm not asking about a credit SCORE here.

As easy as getting other forms of credit if you meet their criteria. The only way to know if it's 'easy' for you to get it is to apply.
    Does it improve credit rating?

That depends on which credit rating you are referring to. There is no universal 'rating'. Each lender rates/scores you in line with their criteria.

I think your rating is established by lenders looking at your past credit history. This is surely obtained when you make a new application for "credit" I appreciate a score is not worth anything. As it's a lenders criteria, that decides if it falls into what they want as giving you a credit line. I asked a couple of questions on my original post. That is what i'm hoping to have answered.

I guess it depends what other credit you are looking for. A mortgage lender may view regular shopping on catalogues as a sign you can manage credit well or they might view it as indicative of an impulsive, frivolous attitude that they don't appreciate. My BiL was refused a mortgage due to regular small online bets on his current account, was nothing large or beyond his means but they didn't like the look of it.
    Mortgage Outstanding Nov '16 £142,772.75
Mortgage Additional OPs 2017 Target £4522.80/ Actual £865.00
    GC Feb 0/£200

This is what i'm getting at. Does a catalogue have a negative effect? i.e like a payday loan etc. Is it good to get one and establish a history with the ability to repay etc.
