How to get new cabinet for broadband installed?

I also live in Staffordshire, between 2 villages, (2.54Km from the nearest fibre enabled exchange. SuperFastStaffordshire have already told me that because my property, (1 of 7 barns on a farm), is so small, we wont get superfast broadband, even with all the upgrade plans and the extra funding.
Community Funding would be an option if the original quote from BT to put in the infrastructure wasnt £43,392.00, (inc VAT!) - which is between 7 properties, (1 isnt lived in and 1 has just been sold - so no idea if the new resident will deem it necessary, (I currently get 1.5 - 2.1Mb download and 0.3 upload.
Can anyone else come up with any ideas that might help? (what I have tried so far:)
Satellite wont work for us: Too expensive and to restricted, (average families use 290Gb per month - this would cost around £50 for a 50Gb package then a further £5. per Gb thereafter, making this unrealistic.
OpenReach are just quoting a ridiculous fee, (it doesnt have to dig through a complex housing estate, mainly open fields - which we have the farmers permission to use) - but there is no one at Open Reach that will give me an actual price without paying £2,500 for the 'field survey' - for flip sake!
VirginMedia are not in my area :0(

The sum quoted is realistic for the work. Let's face it, how many years is it going to take them to make that back in wholesale charges from seven people, given that some providers offer broadband for a tiny supplement on top of line rental?Community Funding would be an option if the original quote from BT to put in the infrastructure wasnt £43,392.00, (inc VAT!) - which is between 7 properties, (1 isnt lived in and 1 has just been sold - so no idea if the new resident will deem it necessary, (I currently get 1.5 - 2.1Mb download and 0.3 upload.
£6200 each for the infrastructure is still likely to be cheaper in the long run than paying for a private circuit or moving house to somewhere nearer a cabinet. It could also add to the saleability of the properties as more and more people consider broadband availability before making a purchase, rather than just looking at nearby schools and complaining about the poor broadband after moving in (that's a general point not directed at you personally, just something that happens so often).
You just need to weigh up how important the ability to stream HD video is to you.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
Onamatopea,
LOL!!!
Its not about streaming videos, I promise. I work in IT, my wife is a social worker, we are both heavy internet users for our work, so its more about that, that streaming HD, (or 4K!).
I get your point, but when I mention figures like those above, there are 2 of the 7 that would consider it, the rest of the neighbours have said a flat no. (1 is a builder, 1 sells glass in London, (where he has his office), 1 is empty, 1 has just sold his place, 1 is for sale, 1 is an electrician - who just uses the web for quotes, (the electrician has 3.3Mb download!), meaning that it would be over £20+K each for me and the other owner.
I understand that I will have to pay something, but I am sure that a percentage of that cost would be to landowners and digging up roads? The landowner for at least half the land between the exchange and our properties would give access and permission for free and the main road is a country lane with soft verges - so again, I think that their charge is unreasonable - but with 0 competition, why should it be?
And as for the £2500 - to get someone out to have a look..... Dont get me started!Eating Breakfast, Cycling or Moaning.0 -

It's not someone to just "take a look". It's a full survey to identify what can and can't be done, how it would be delivered, what wayleaves and permissions would be needed amongst many other things.

1) What about 4G
2) I'm sure you could get away with 50Gb per month if you don't use iplayer and similar.

So, your work needs have developed since you moved to this property, as being in IT you wouldn't have moved there knowing what the broadband situation was if you already had those needs.
In all seriousness, if heavy internet use from home has developed into being that important to your work then it will be easier to move yourself closer to the infrastructure than the infrastructure to you, so you should move house into a big town with FTTC available so you get a choice of ISPs (cable has the VM monopoly so no ISP choice).
As an aside, I was able to do everything I needed on 3Mbps ADSL before FTTC came to where I live, an SSH terminal (e.g. PUTTY in WIndows) to log in to remote servers to perform out-of-hours maintenance requires very little throughput, as it's just text . (And, yes, when I moved in 2010 broadband was at the top of my non-negotiables list - any property too far from the exchange or cabinet was discarded, no matter what other benefits it might have)Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
Onomatopoe,
Alas no, my move was recent and I knew the speed was slow, however, I rather niavely thought that a letter I was shown from a local MP, which said about the upgrades in the area included my place.
I am also married - so my wife said we were moving. End of!
My 'non-negotiables' list was as such:
3 beds, detached, double garage, walking distance to a good pub or 2.
Reality:
Semi-detached barn, no garage, cant walk to the pub - roads are too dangerous!Eating Breakfast, Cycling or Moaning.0 -
Andy PK,
Great idea, but the limit to 50Gb makes it unrealistic for us. EE are giving me 30Mb download, but I can only use 50Gb. Its such a shame they dont offer a Rural Broadband solution :0(Eating Breakfast, Cycling or Moaning.0 -
Lee111s,
If I understood exactly what they were doing, then I could understand why the prices are so high. IF I could speak to them, I could at least try and mitigate some of their costs - or see what work I could do myself?Eating Breakfast, Cycling or Moaning.0 -

Via SIM you mean?
Get a 2nd SIM and swap half way though the month
probably get a discount on the 2nd.
If you can get 30Mbps then a sim is the answer0
