Hotel with cryptosporidium

Poor hygiene is definitely a factor.
If you've just been to the toilet, you cannot wash yourself properly in the shower while wearing a bathing costume.
And of course many people jump into pools without showering at all.
I avoid pools and swim in the sea where the salt and dilution generally provides a safer environment.
Although I did go to a thermal baths in Iceland where they had diagrams in the shower area pointing out where you should be washing yourself!0 -

Also I have found out that this hotel had problems with Cryptosporidium in the past, so it clearly is not a one off, which will be sorted in 2 weeks time.
Isn't this more of an indication of the clientele the hotel attracts rather than their hygiene standards? No matter how clean they keep the pool if their guests continue to crap in it they are fighting a losing battle.
I cant say I've ever stayed anywhere where those types of people choose to holiday.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

In some areas it's a very 'specialised' spa treatment :rotfl:0 -

I obviously do not want to stay there anymore and put my family at risk especially as I have a baby but Thomson is refusing to change our hotel or cancel the booking. What are my options apart from losing my money?
Given the attitude you've thrown about throughout this maybe you should make a pre-emptive call to one of the new 'holiday illness' claim lines - given the info/opinions you have maybe you could actually claim without even going on holiday - win/win situation0 -
I thought this was a thread about being revived hundreds of years after death!0

The hotel have put in place all measures needed to get rid of this, and you seem not to accept that. Thomson can also not be held responsible for a guest sharting in the pool.
Thomson will NOT change your holiday, as there is simply nothing they can do, and as stated above should be good by the 2nd of December. If you choose not to go, you will lose your entire holiday and any money paid. I am also pretty confident that as the hotel are doing everything they can to alleviate the issue so that would mean you won't be able to claim on any insurance.
Surely if they have all those safeguards in place, to go 4 days after a full deep clean would be the optimum time to go, as it will be being closely monitored at such a time?DomRavioli wrote: »Considering I have 10 years experience and a first class degree in a very relevant subject, I wouldn't say it was unhelpful, ill informed (which is two words btw) or unhelpful. If you choose to put yourself at risk then that is your issue, not your tour operator.
This is a public forum. You have been given correct advice, the simple fact is you don't want to take it. Thomson will NOT give you any money back, move your holiday or "take precautions" as the local health authority in destination is monitoring the situation as they are required to do. If you choose to ignore this, and all other information, then that is your choice; but nobody will recompense you for your choice not to go.
And I don't appreciate some internet troll throwing insults around - maybe you should have a long hard look in the mirror, as you words are always a reflection of who you are, not the person who gains your ire.
If you seriously think a deep clean of a swimming pool will irradicate cryptosporidium it shows your ignorance.
From the UK gov website
" Cryptosporidium is not killed by alcohol gels, hand sanitizers, disinfectant or standard bleach solutions "
The most effective way to kill crypto is to treat contaminated surfaces with a 3% hrdrogen peroxide.
This cleaning should include pools, guest rooms, bathrooms, public areas, kitchens, dining rooms etc.
When asked if this has been done at the hotel the relpy is the pool has been treated and filters changed.
I dont have a master degree in a revelant subject but I still seem to know more than you.
If you dont have any constructive advise relevant to the genuine question asked I suggest you go and troll someone else.0 -

Why would I try to avoid a situation and protect my family from a serious illness if my intention is to get ill and make an insurance claim.

Indeed - many of them drawn out by newbies who ask questions, don't listen to the sensible answers given and then start throwing insults around
Enjoy your holiday0 -
And before you all come back with your ''Smart'' ''Clever'' posts there is no need.
I have realised the majority of keyboard warriors commenting on here are just sad little people with nothing better to do than make totally irrelevant childish comments just trying to make themselves look important. You are failing big time.

While to some extent I understand both sides of this thread but I would say to the ones on here that have IMO decried the OP would you {with or without the understanding of the illness} and after reading possible bad or worse reactions to this illness risk taking YOUR young/very young family to such a place or would you at least try to find away to move elsewhere or get refunded?
Th OP is worried and whether or not the outbreak/fix has or has not been sorted it is still a worry for her and it is why the question was asked.
To the OP I will say,as stated it is an open forum and anyone can put forward their thoughts, some may agree some may not I personally do not think you can get your money back or be moved and I did post that earlier others have made their points so now only you can choose what to do. If you choose to go I hope despite the hotels problems you and yours have a good time, if you choose not to go I hope that you can find in the future other places that take the health and wellbeing of their paying guests far better than the company/hotel seem to be doing in your case:0)0
