Aim to get mortgage down before increasing again

Thanks purple fairy. I think there is about 9years left as we did extend out when getting more finance for the extension. We could fix for 5years and then see how much is left if I keep on with the small overpayments. I'm hoping to work things out over the next week or so and see if able to reduce this by a year and continue with the overpayments.1

Well it's an expensive thing to run a car. Car was in for service and mot today. Had to get a bit of work done but it passed. So paid over £300 and its back in the garage next Monday for front and back brake pads so that's another just short of £400. The joys. Hubbies car due in soon for service - I hope they don't find anything too bad with his. I think I may need to rob a bit of money from the savings.1

Well we have been getting several.cslls from our mortgage provider last week as part 1 and part 2 is ending end ofay. Anyway decided to phone them and see if I could change the deal over the phone. Not really wanting to do this but I could do it online. I did it online so that's us signed up for 5yr deal at 1.69%.
Happy it's done and reduced our payment by £65 roughly especially during this time as hi now starting to worry about his job etc. We will be fine as hot a fair bit of savings but will trying times for folk.1 -
Our holiday to new York in April has been cancelled so just waiting to hear from our travel agents and I hope we will get our money back. Would love to go there next April but will see what happens.
We have cancelled our summer holiday at end June so just lost our deposit which is not much but I would rather lose this than pay the remainder of the money next month. Hoping we can still go away for our few days during Glasgow September weekend.1 -
Great news on the mortgage.
Sorry to hear your holiday plans have had to be cancelled.
Better to be safe than sorry.
Hope for better news on your DH's job.
Take care.2 -
Hubbie is communicating with our tour operator re NYC trip but they seem to be pushing to keep our money and book us for next April. I think we may have a fight on our hands but hope we will get the money back and we can decide when we want to rebook when this all blows over.
Also daughter was due to go with 5 friends to an ice cream parlour on Saturday. Will need to see if this still goes ahead and if other parents are happy for their child to still go due to yesterday's announcement. I would still like it to happen if they are all still at school and seeing everyone since she could have one celebration since she will be 13. We have cancelled going out for dinner at the end of march to hard rock cafe and hopefully can still do this later in the year if they are still in business. All very stressful and not good timing. I'm back to work.tomorrow at the school until we heard anything to suggest otherwise.ftom the government.2 -
We things have changed big time. Hubbie working at home notand didim doing schoolwork with younger son. I to don't need in work as they only opening some school as hubs for some children so I have put my name down to go in and help. Waiting for the rota to be made up as it changed on Friday there.
Hubbie spoke to virgin holidays and we are suppose to get our money back will just need to check if money put into the credit card accounts. Not sure if we can have a credit on these since one has been paid off fully and not sure if we can be in credit as not really spending money since we are staying in.
I have decided to put the money by for paying off the.mortgage into another account in case hubbie works reduces his wages. Of not then I can make a bigger overpayment when life is back to normal but keeping this just in case.

Seems sensible to keep the OP to one side for now and use later. If they put the refund on the CC can you use this for food shopping and possibly pay for some normal bills with it until it’s gone? Unless the CC company will return the credit balance.3
