The resolution of the video is one thing, but the quality of the optics is at least as important.

Quite, although Nexbase do bang on about the
Six-Element Sharp Lenses made with 6 layers of glass to provide stunning clear images
I suspect recording at 640x480 @500kb/s would give the same results, and store 32 times as much on the memory card, no idea why they set the bitrate so high in the firstplace, you can get decent 1080 video at 1/4 the bitrate if you H264 it.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

However you did seem to jump the lights a bit.
I will be the first to admit that I occasionally go above the posted speed limits (but only on motorways and dual carriageways) but one thing I never do is to jump red lights.

The snapshot below clearly shows that I hadn't passed the light before it was green

and if you compare the position of my car. If you use the railings as a guide, you can see 3 uprights on the fence and I was in line with the 4th one from the junction, my car was still behind the solid line until there was a green.

I've got the Blackvue DR650, it does the job.

I managed to catch a traffic warden give me 40 seconds "Observation time" when they stated 6 minutes of observation on the ticket. They actually started issuing the ticket within 40 seconds of arriving on site.

An Official Complaint is about to be submitted

It also shows the Merc clearly hasn't stopped at their lights. Waiting for them to figure out !!!!!! they were doing - or just get on and do it - would have been a much wiser thing to do, instead of just moving off blithely.

If the Merc had pulled into the lane I was in then yes, I would either have stopped instead of just slowing down.
However, as I've already mentioned, when I used my horn and he noticed me, he stopped just short of where I was going to be dtiving, hence there was no need for me to stop.
I was going slowly enough (as you can clearly see from the video) that should I have needed to stop, this wouldn't have been a problem.

    You miss my point.

Yet again, a dashcam video shows one person making a mistake, and the second person either failing to spot that mistake before it develops or trying to deliberately make it develop so that they can "make a point".

If you'd actually spotted him going through that light, why not simply wait before pulling off?
  • When I'm at a set of lights I tend to look at the route ahead, the light and the other traffic. Adrian because you have seen what happened and have studied the video do you think you have paid a little more attention to the Merc than a driver would in normal circumstances? having watched the video you thought the lights had been jumped - were you looking at the light at all? The driver would have been.

I tend to get the distinct feeling that some drivers who use dash cams are hoping for an event to happen that they can film and put on youtube ....
When they are cut up (or worse) - they then throw their toys out of the pram and complain bitterly about the close call......
Sorry, I may be wrong - but I feel that many accidents could be avoided if the driver did not have a dash cam and concentrated more carefully on the actual road conditions..
A dash cam could not ever be said to improve road manners - you just have to watch and listen to "any" youtube posting to the language used when someone has a near miss !!

Surely if I was trying to "make a point", I would have either slammed on my brakes and used my horn/waved a fist, swerved around the other car, again making my annoyance visible or simply have allowed an accident to happen

I did none of these. I simply slowed down until I could ascertain what the Merc driver was going to do and this still left me two options, either stop if needed or slowing down and going around the other car once I could see that they had seen me and stopped.

I chose the second option and at no time was I close to having an accident and the flow of traffic kept moving safely.
