I don't understand what May is trying to achieve in with this case in the first place. Is she really so arrogant that she believes the eurosceptic Tories and the quitters are the only people who still have a voice about the future of our country?

I don't understand why people prattle on about irrelevant topics. That have little bearing to how things are dealt with out in the big wide world. Be dumb to show to show your hand entirely before negotiations even start. Not as if the UK can demand anything. The EU holds the 4 aces as Cameron found out. Unless there's a change of players in the game then there'll be no change in attitude.

So if it is irrelevant, and Article 50 will be passed anyway (which it will), why is May wasting all of our time and money fighting a pointless and worse, antagonistic court case?

If she wins the case then it may goad a deluded Jeremy Corbyn to call for an early election.

Corbyn is probably too busy at home making jam to care.

Back to the Supreme Court business. Personally I have little to no sympathy with the politics behind the MPs who were demanding their say before article 50 was triggered when they had either their own pomposity, tribal politics or Brexit-wrecking as their motivation. Even as a strong supporter for the Remain cause, that was before the Referendum, but now we as a country need to be united to get the best deal was can, not fiddle around trying to get a much degraded version of what we had as a member of the EU.

But the work being done by the Supreme Court is valuable in my opinion. Clarity is needed on prerogative powers and if our constitution has indeed been violated then that must be put right.

There are other factors. The High Court decision resulted in a mess of confusion and a lot of damaging calls for deciding the end result of our red lines in a negotiation where a successful result will depend on give and take across the board, not to mention a bit of craftiness by our negotiators.

So what I hope for in the judgement is not just a pass or fail judgement but a refinement of the High Court judgement. For example, that Parliament must agree the invocation of Article 50 but not compromise the negotiation while, on the other hand, approving (or not) the final result.

There is also the matter of the intervention of the Devolved Regions of the UK. I hope for confirmation that Sewell is not relevant to Article 50 and also that it is not circumvented by Brexit.

Finally, I think a vote by Parliament sanctioning Article 50 will put a limit on some MPs who claim it is not legally legitimate and that they then get on with constructive inputs.

    Allegedly so.

A very opinionated piece from someone that's only lived in the country for 18 years. Hardly surprising that Mrs May was irritated. As the writers sole intention seems to have been to rant with a pre-planned assault.
