What is a debit card transfer
It's a transfer using the little plastic card the bank gave you.

On the positive side - for those of us that don't yet have Tesco current accounts, maybe when this is all over they will start offering a good switching bonus to re-build their customer base...
  • "It could also be that the debit cards linked to the affected current accounts are not protected by Tesco Bank Secure (aka 'Verified by Visa' & 'MasterCard SecureCode'), unless this security layer was bypassed in the hack."

My card is definitely protected by VbV, half the time I struggle to remember my own password to get past it (unlike Halifax where the VbV boxs comes up but verifies itself with no need for input)

I reckon this has been going for a few more days than is being listed as I have a Tesco credit card of which I cleared in full last Tuesday morning and as a general rule this would show quite quickly by the following day as it is a transfer from my bank, Tried to use my credit card Friday and it was refused and when I have logged in to the account the balance and what is available are a different figure.

I am not ringing them and sitting holding for an hour.

Thought I would ring back and got through straight away just now at 15:07 Today, My credit card was flagged as part of standard FCA procedures apparently for anti money laundering purposes, Oh well at least I know it was not defrauded and the guy I spoke to said it was only current accounts that were hacked.

Not much help now, but I've held back on opening a current account with them because I remember their attitude to security from a few years ago (apparently 4 now!).

More evidence that Tesco does not take security seriously:

Police called over Tesco Clubcard fraud fears: Check your account now (MSE - Feb 2013)
Tesco Clubcard fraud victims urged to change passwords (MSE - Mar 2013)
Tesco Clubcard: Check accounts now, as fraud reports continue (MSE - Jun 2013)
Tesco Clubcard holders: Consider changing passwords after breach (MSE - Feb 2014)
Tesco knew 20,000 shoppers were at risk of points theft - but it didn't sound the alarm (This is Money - Feb 2015)

    That makes absolutely no sense.

I suggest that a generic compensation amount should be paid. A higher amount to all customers who have had money taken from their account, a lower amount to those who got the initial fraud message but whose accounts didn't have money taken from them. Apart from call charges, there is waste of time involved plus worry/concern caused by the initial poor handling.
I'm more in favour of the 'every man for himself' approach personally. Just had my complaint resolved, and I'm very happy. :D

If anyone is intending to complain, mentioning being awoken by 'general information' text messages at 04:00 generates a bit extra on top.

And another tip...once you've agreed an amount, if you have two accounts they're very happy to double it!

I think the poster means depositing funds in a savings account (such as YBS) or paying a credit card bill over the phone/online by debit card?

You might be right. It's the first time I have heard such transactions being described as a "debit card transfer".

I disagree. Points systems run by supermarket are totally different to the bank.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
