  • I'm out of contract on a SIM-only deal but with loyalty bonuses attached.  Looking at the options available the best 2yr is either £20/mth for 125Gb or £10/mth for 25Gb (both with "stay connected" data and it can be gifted across the account) or for £22/mth it's 35Gb with one "extra"... but looking at the 1mth deals I can get Unlimited, uncapped data for £19/mth including an "extra".

Currently I'm paying (from memory) just over £19 for 6Gb data and have the TNT Sports Extra (this is now £20 on its own) so it seems sensible for me to get the 1mth deal and bring our 2nd SIMS back in from another network at a cost of about £4.80 with minimal data.

What I want to know is...  Can anyone think of a reason that I shouldn't make the switch?

Cost in March '25 - both will likely go up by CPI+3.9% unless the Ofcom ruling affects current/out of contract mobiles

Could they (with notice) just increase the price by more than that as I'm out of contract?

    Any thoughts?

  • Was shopping around for a better deal on my out of date sim only plan (2 numbers, 20gb data, unlimited calls/texts@ £27.95 each monthly, EE) and was settled on switching to Lebara (12gb, unlimited calls/texts@ £8 monthly).
Went to EE's website to get info on switching and the moment I press "Leaving EE" they start phoning me!
Straightaway offering me 12gb data, unlimited calls/texts for a mere £6 per number monthly for a 12month contract.
Well chuffed at saving over £40 monthly without even having to bargain.
  • I wanted to upgrade from my O2 20GB + Disney Plus plan at £30 p/m. Ridiculous I know. I came across USwitch just yesterday and they have the best O2 deals by a country mile.
    50gb £10
    100gb £15
    250gb £18
+Free EU Roaming + 3 months free Amazon

I was already an O2 customer so selected a plan, clikced continue and was taken straight through to the O2 website where I was able to log-in and finish the upgrade on the O2 website right to the end. I was able to stick with Disney for 3 mths rather than Amazon which was better for me. I then had the follow up texts from O2 to confirm the upgrade. These things are usually a bit of a faff but it was all seamless!!

I'm not 100% sure about Volt. It isn't mentioned. I've been having issues so not too fusssed as I now have loads of data and don't have to think twice about streaming on Spotify, playing Youtube videos or Netflix movies. Bliss.

If you're keen to go via O2 the nearest they have to this is 150gb for 19.99. This ends today though!

I am also an o2 customer I have a sim only after buying my iPhone outright last year . I am out of contract on my sim only plan and was wondering if I go onto uswitch and buy the 02 sim only at £8 per month what way does that work . I obviously want to keep my same number so will I have to port my number over . If you were then directed onto o2 site then this hasn’t happened to you … sorry I’m not really clued up as I’m over 60

If you use Uswitch --> O2 and you say you are an existing customer then your new contract will be an upgrade which means you keep the same number (and SIM) - no need for number porting.

Please could someone help. i have been with ee for many years sim only currently paying just under £11 for 7gb of data. I now need more data. They have offered a deal £29 for unlimited data but the data is restricted to 100mbps. I have a new s24 and that means i cant get 5g. I do use video calls while outside which uses data but dont like the restriction.
I know 3 mobile do a 120gb deal for £12 but am worried about changing networks and signal strength etc.
Does anyone else know about the ee speed cap and does it affect anything?
Or am i better just changing networks?
  • If I look at the EE mobile website there's a 1 month contract for unlimited, uncapped data for £26 available to existing customers. Suggest you have another word with EE.

Do you know how much data you need a month? It's obviously cheaper to have an upper limit.

Best way to check out other network's coverage is to ask friends/family where you want to use the phone. Local WhatsApp group might have an opinion on this (they seem to have an opinion on everything else).
  • EE don't really offer unlimited data, in reality (like the other networks) it is limited to around 500 GB per month to be fair to other users who don't want you to hog the available bandwidth.

As to wanting faster than 100 Mb/s, good luck with that, don't forget EE have only limited bandwidth to share among everyone else watching football/cat videos, etc. The speed also depends how close to a site you are and 5G (even on EE) is very patchy compared to 4G. Mobile internet varies significantly depending on the time of day and where you are, my poorest experience was in a seaside town on a summer Saturday when it was raining, I guess a lot of visitors in the nearby caravan park were trying to watch TV via the local mobile network and it was so slow, even static web pages were tedious to load.

I have a couple of SIMs on an EE business broadband deal, the one at 2 miles from the nearest site is only half the download speed of one half a mile from the site...

This is true, and I wish the mobile providers wouldn't use poetic licence be creative with the word unlimited lie via the smallprint. Just be up front and say what the limit is, and you won't be booted out your relatively low bandwidth zoom session because of your neighbours watching HD Tiddles FC vs Boots FC     (the C is cat. The F is up to your imagination, probably Fluffy)
