I've been on the 3 One deal (£28/month) for a good few years, but now I have retired, I don't need the amount of data, or tethering/hotspot.

I do need data roaming for when I visit France, once or twice a year - mainly for maps. Otherwise, very little, as I am not a big user.

The best the guy in 3 would offer me was 1Gb at £10 (I think, might have been less) but he couldn't or wouldn't tell me how much extra data would be.

    Any advice?

Could be a local store offer but the best I've seen recently is at my local Carphone Warehouse which is offering a Virgin Mobile 3GB sim only on a 30 days rolling contract for £8 a month.

My method of calculating the amount of mobile data I need is to add mobile data usage to wi-fi data usage and the total is what mobile data I need. My reasoning is that if my wi-fi went down or I couldn't get home I would be subject to arm and a leg fees for extra mobile data. The alternative would be to turn off my mobile phone if my usual wi-fi connection is not available.
  • Looking to move from Plusnet only because the EE signal is too poor in my house. I am looking for the best deal with 1GB and wifi calling to overcome weak mobile signal. Must be able to buy add on data when on holiday and tethering. Alternatively good deal with around 3Gb

Who does provide a good signal then? You will gets lots of recs for the likes of 3 / giff gaff etc, but if you tell us who has good signal that will save a lot of time

As per the previous post, you need to grab a sim from O2, Vodafone and 3 (or anyone who uses those carriers) and see what sort of signal you get in the house and in your usual haunts. Then you look for a suitable deal.

Never used them myself as they're on the Three network which is useless around here. If Three is no use for your friend have a look at someone like Plusnet who have a 1,5GB, 2000 minutes, UL texts for £6 a month or of course if they're very light users a PAYG sim (O2 maybe)

    Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker
    Hi
I have 3 contracts with Vodafone ending next month, and I'm looking at getting a 4th. (They grow up so quickly :) )

I have previously been with BT and was happy with the service, and I do have BT Broadband.

BT currently have offers which include a "Reward Card" prepaid credit card.
Does anyone know if I'd get this for each contract?
It says for "New BT Customers", not sure if a new additional contract counts as a new customer.
Also, Quidco have cashback on new contracts
Looks like clicking through from Quidco excludes you from the reward card offer, anyone confirm this?

    BTs offers are:

2GB Unlimited mins/texts with £30 reward card, and maybe £15 Quidco for £10pcm
Would be £6.25 with all cashback
Would be £8.75 without reward card

5GB Unlimited mins/texts with £40 reward card and maybe £35 Quidco for £12pcm
Would be £5.75 with all cashback
Would be £9.08 without reward card

Even if I just got Quidco for each, it would make it slightly cheaper than the "Family SIM" discount.

Vodafone have offered me 40% discount on their
£16.50 package which has unlimited texts, 1000 minutes and 5GB Data bringing it to £9.50pcm per contract

    Any better offers out there?

One of the overlooked aspects of SIM only (as I learnt after switching from EE to Plusnet) is that some of the cheaper piggybacking services DO NOT offer the full range of services.

I make regular long distance trips and used to use Trafficmaster (1740 or similar) to check out delays if something came up on the news.

    Plusnet can't offer that service.

A guide to cheap service restrictions such as this would be useful.

Theres no earthly technical reason for such restrictions, but the big boys have to fight back somehow......

And why do so many of the piggybackers make it so difficult to find out what network they REALLY run on - we know Virgin don't build their own planes, so why try and give the impression you have your OWN network??????
  • SMARTY do a monthly sim only deal that is £10 a month for 4gb data, unlimited texts and calls and also works in 60 odd countries. If you don't use the 4gb data, you get a refund each month on what you don't use. For the last 2 months I have only paid £6,50 after the refunds. You can also tether with this contract.
