Barclaycard accounts opened before 1992 are not registered with CRAs

Hello
Clearscore gave me one negative when I recently checked my credit rating - no active credit card in my name.
However, I've held a Barclaycard since 1983 with a current credit limit of over £8,000 which has been the only credit card I've ever held.
Barclaycard have since confirmed to me in writing that only new customers from 1992 have been given the option (via a consent mechanism) to allow their account details to be shared with CRAs. However, pre 1992 customers have never been given that same option and their accounts, account history, and credit limits are not shared.
I don't know if this was a deliberate act by Barclaycard to keep credit ratings lower to exact higher interest rates from their customers taking out Barclayloans or not.
But I do know that credit card repayment histories and limits have very important influences on credit scores.
Therefore, it would appear that I may have paid too much interest on car/diy loans etc since 1992 because of Barclaycards perverse decision to refrain from asking their existing customers what their CRA wishes might be.
It's ironic that when Barclaycard gave me the option to view my Experian CS I felt good that Experian were being advised of my excellent credit history! How wrong I was.
I raised a dispute with Clearscore and Equifax then invited me to join their support centre. I sent them copies of my Barclaycard statements and Barclaycard correspondence in evidence. Barclaycard invited me to check my Experian score this morning (good timing) - my score? 997 out of 999!!
One hell of a jump from before. I'm not the only one in the same boat - my wife has discovered that her pre 1992 Barclaycard account is also not shared with CRAs.

Ignore your score. It means less than nothing.
Many older accounts are not reported. It's not a conspiracy though.
Consider opening a new card elsewhere to build a more solid credit history.0 -
BC are going to send me a consent form so that my details are shared in the future. I don't know if a new card provider would agree to a credit limit approaching £10,000!
This limit has been very useful in the past when I've undertaken large projects and needed to juggle money around.0 -
It depends on your circumstances. My new cards tend to be well in excess of that figure.
Regardless, it's always wise to have a back up or two.0 -
Duplicate thread

Seems OP thinks he is entitled to compo as having no credit history is damaging him when in fact it's probably helping affordability with his BC not showing!!0 -
Well I'm pleased for you. Our financial positions are unique to us all.
Yours is obviously a lot better than mine because I‘ll never get new credit cards with your credit limits. I’m jealous!0 -

Consumer credit agencies didn't exist back then. Not in the form they do now. Barclaycard have no right to disclose your information. Nor can it impose it on a customer by a variation in the terms and conditions. As there no clause in the original contract allowing them to do so.0 -

This is possibly incorrect. It seems that many organisations can report you to the CRAs without your consent - well, the CRAs let them do so, anyway. Typical here are the water companies. They don't have your consent but they don't care and report you to the CRAs anyway.0 -
No you won't but as you have not applied for a credit card for 33 years and apparently have only held one credit card during your entire life, that is to be expected. If during the course of those 33 years you had actually applied for other cards, especially during the 1990's, you would have massive credit limits by now assuming you maintained the accounts correctly.Sammyblue13 wrote: »Well I'm pleased for you. You make references to having paid higher rates of interest on your loans which you blame on the non-reporting of this card. Firstly, if these were barclayloans as you state, then the non-reporting of your card by Barclaycard would have no effect as they would also have a record of your history with Barclays. Also, as has been previously pointed out on your duplicate thread, the non-reporting of this card would have kept your balances down and therefore you may well have actually got better rates.0 -

But your score does not determine your lending criteria, so still NIL effect.I raised a dispute with Clearscore and Equifax then invited me to join their support centre. See this thread where a score of 999 still didn't give them the Credit Card they wanted.......https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5549193
or where the OP cannot get a current account here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5542373
Due to the need for multiple threads on the same topic - Is there something specific you want us to tell you?
BC have done nothing wrong.
