Oh you lovely lot!
Well things escalated rather fast after I posted last. went from "not feeling well" to feeling absolutely awful, and messaged MrEH to come and get me - something I would NEVER dream of doing normally. He took me home, and we rang NHS111 who were great, said I was to call my GP to either get an appointment OR to get a GP callback within 2 hours, or I was to call them back. GP couldn't offer anything, so another call to 111 - less helpful this time, woman I spoke with didn't bother tieing in with my earlier call in spite of knowing I'd made one, and just said to me to get back on to the GP to see someone when I could. Had I been on my own that is the point at which I'd have said "Oh I'll just see how I feel tomorrow..." - turns out it was a good job I didn't. MrEH kept quietly insisting that no, I needed to get sorted, and eventually reluctantly I agreed to go to A&E. Got seen through triage to their GP pretty fast and they sent me round for a blood test, then I was let home. An hour later got a call from the surgery - had I got anyone with me, and could they get me back to the hospital? Well yes, but the A&E GP had made me a Dr's appoint for the following morning could I not just keep that "No - you need to go back to the hospital now - you're going to need a blood transfusion..." *GULP*. Turns out my haemoglobin level was at 45 - anything below 70 is considered dangerously low. Ended up with 5 transfusions (Thanks to anyone on here who gives blood - you truly are lifesavers) and a slowly growing realisation of quite how lucky I was. We now think that I'd probably been in the "severely anaemic" range (sub 70) for probably over a year - and bear in mind for that timescale I'd also been taking a daily supplement with iron (100% of RDA) and eating an iron rich diet.
By the time I'd had the second bag of blood I felt "back to normal" again - three more however has left me literally bouncing around with more energy than I've had in several years. Just unbelievable, the difference, and all the more so for how fast it kicks in. The root cause of the problem (let's say "lady issues") has also now been diagnosed, and I started treatment yesterday for that. I'm on 3 x daily iron tablets and have other medication to take on an "as needed" basis as well. I was discharged overnight on Friday and properly discharged on saturday when a blood test (I think my 7th since Wednesday afternoon! Mr EH said at one stage they seemed to be taking it back out again as fast as it went in! :rotfl:) showed an Hb reading of 99 :T:T:T. SO many differences - and stuff I've not even connected with it - my Restless Leg Syndrome is about 80% better, I'm sleeping better, in great solid chunks rather than the 30 minutes > 1 hour I was getting. I can walk uphill without getting out of breath...
Will resume proper MSE activities shortly! Thank you all so much for your lovely well wishes though - very much appreciated and those that said MrEH is a diamond are absolutely right - he truly is, and I feel absolutely terrible about scaring him like that.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
