Thanks to everyone for their comments and a particular thank you to the Land Registry person who, as always, replied promptly

The problem here is exacerbated by the fact that we had a brilliant conveyancing solicitor but she has now retired from the firm and therefore getting someone competent to put the matter right is proving to be a Sisyphean struggle :(

We purchased an off plan apartment and paid extra money to the people assigning the long leasehold interest to us. SDLT was paid on the original price + premium. My solicitor sent all the relevant documentation to the Land Registry but they didn't read the papers properly and only looked at the original price paid

It is a significant error that can cause long term damage as when we come to sell, the capital growth a purchaser looks at will be based on the figure on the Land Registry title. When we buy properties, that is always the first thing I check

If there is someone at the Land registry to whom I could be speak, rather than having to rely on this very inefficient firm of solicitors, I would be extremely grateful to know his/her name or what number I should ring

    Thanks again

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the OP it looks like they may have purchased an assignment on an off plan flat (prior to construction completion) and have paid the original asking price of the flat plus a premium for the assignment.

They now want the purchase price to show the total of the actual purchase price plus the additional premium.

I'm probably wrong and a complete moron but hey ho, I don't really care.

So LR have recorded correctly the price paid for the apartment, but what they haven't recorded is the price paid to the previous off-plan purchaser for assigning their contract to you?

Sounds like LR have it correct, then.

I'm sure you do. But that doesn't mean that it has the slightest effect on the price which a vendor would be willing to accept. Nor does it have any effect on the prices accepted for similar properties nearby. Basically, it's an irrelevance in actually setting the value - although you may wish to use it to inform your decision on whether to place an offer or not.

Any buyers (well, those who are not morons) will be aware that the stated price for properties, particularly newbuild ones, often doesn't reflect the true consideration, for various reasons. Whatever the Land Registry's practice ought to be, I don't see this as being a big deal.

We have SENT this TITLE INFORMATION on four, yes four occasions.
Is it possible that there is a department at the LR full of illiterate and innumerate morons?? One gets them in most Government departments

If that's how you address people then not surprised you are not getting any service. Didn't your parents teach how to behave?

Back in the paleozoic, when I worked in Whitehall, we loved letters which addressed us like this.

It was a great excuse not to look deeply, but simply reply: "The Minister has asked me to say that your representations have been noted."

Unfortunately, I failed my finals in applied moronics, so had to leave the service for something more challenging, but I still enjoy the index linked pension earned at that time.

    Good night, rude people, everywhere....:)
