I want a new car!

  • Thanks all for your help. I've been to an independent detailer who has said that it is better to sand and repaint. He also saw other marks on the paintwork which he said looks like birds droppings ( where I can swear on my life there has been none so I am so confused).
Went back to the Nissan dealer and the manager agreed with me about getting a new car, which is what they would have done if I noticed these marks within the first 14 days. But for that to happen now I would need to take it up with Nissan Customer Services direct. This could take fron 2-8 months.
The other alternative would be to upgrade the car, as it is possible on my plan, but with the new finance it will cost us £3000.
I'm thinking that I should just wait till next July and upgrade then.( Will pursue Nissan Customer Services. If that fails, the dealers to repaint and I upgrade).

i hope you get the outcome that you want, it is bizarre that the detailer said he can also see marks that look like bird droppings
  • Bearing in mind the number of Qashqais sitting around in compounds near Sunderland, it's eminently possible it's sat around for months since build and been shat on multiple times by the ostrich-sized seagulls that fly in from Seaham.

Do you really think that or are you joking? :rotfl:
Seriously, I have a blinding headache racking my brain trying to remember if I drove around with ostriche size droppings along the side of my car without noticing ( and without my husband, children and colleagues noticing).

If you are serious then that can be one of my arguments with Nissan Customer Services ie that it is possible the birds droppings were there before sale.

I don't think it, I know it. I know scores of people who work there, and there's every chance your 'new' Qashqai had sat around for months before you got it. Quick wash and a machine polish and hey presto! A new car ready for delivery.

Slightly different in that the car has been presented to the customer as ready to drive away, when clearly it isn't due to paint defects. Quality Control should be picking this sort of thing up. I'd expect something in return for the inconvenience.

Not at a dealership they won't, dealerships are all about sales, salesmen and quality are like chalk and cheese.

  • That looks like a right mess, I'd definitely be after a new car too. Is the car on finance? If it is the finance company are jointly liable so I'd be putting pressure on them to get this sorted quickly.
  • Yes the car is on finance.

I am, after some thought, now furious. If I were to have upgraded yesterday I would have had to pay £3000 more due to the different finance deal they can offer. I think that Nissan should pay that £3000 as compensation or goodwill gesture. Otherwise I am basically paying them to fix their mistake. I'm a mug. £3000 is a paltry sum to a big company.

Can you not easily find the production date, I know with Ford it is readily available on line. OP, have a look around the car for labels. The majority of parts don't sit on the shelf for long, they go from the part manufacturer's production line straight into the car line. I remember looking at my old car and loads of December dated stickers and the car registered in January.

Not a clue, I've never in my life owned a Nissan other than one Almera about 13 or so years back that was my wife's.

Nissan parts certainly don't hang about, the production line consumes them as they come in, almost no stock is held except line side items ready for the next few vehicles. That's why a lot of the tier 1 suppliers are either on the same big estate off Nissan Way. Massively shortens the supply chain for JIT deliveries, as they're literally next door.

However, that doesn't translate into cars off the line not sometimes sitting around for a while...
