what a ridiculous statement :rotfl::rotfl:
by most do you meen 80-90% of new cars or do you actually mean 1-2% which is probably nearer the mark0 -

Anyway yesterday they told me it was a fault in the paintwork and will sand and paint those areas. I am worried that there are other paint faults that I haven't seen yet (because of light conditions) and also I paid for a new car. It is damaged goods in my opinion. If I bought a dress with a fault then I would be given a new one; there wouldn't be an offer of a repair!
are the new marks on the car where the original marks were or are they in a different area ?
from what you said about you can only see them when the sun shines would suggest to me that it is holograms in the paint or buffer trails caused by incorrect machine polishing
car looks great until the sun shines and then at certain angles you see the holograms they seem to be much more visible on a dark blue car or certain other dark colours0 -
The new marks are in a different place.
When the paintshop bloke was inspecting the marks he was also pointing out other faults in that area which I couldn't see.
The marks do look like holograms and my car is ink blue (more like purple)!!0 -
www.google.co.uk/search/car+paint+holograms
that shows some examples of paint holograms
they are often caused by somebody polishing the car with a rotary polisher and then sealed in with lifeshine and when the sun shines it shows them in all their glory, i have seen them where they seem to come out of the paint in like a 3D effect
a good detailer should be able to rid the car of holograms but it is not a cheap job and this is somthing that you shouldnt have to pay to fix
i would say if the car has come out of the dealers like this then they should correct it but the body shop telling you the only way to fix it is by repainting then he is talking rubbish0 -

if you have a few minutes then have a read of that article it will give a good insight into paint holograms
does this look like the issues that you have on your paint0 -
Thank you force ten. That is exactly what the marks look like. They have told me they are going to sand the areas down and repaint them. I am worried that the colour may not match the rest of the car (as well as being precious about having bought a new car and not wanting 'damaged goods '). I am so annoyed with myself. We never buy brand new and it took a lot of discussion before we decided to treat ourselves. The main factor was no problems in a new car for at least a couple of years 0

Like you, I'd be annoyed at having to return a new car for bodywork and respray. But the advice in this thread seems to indicate that you're stuck with it.

it does not need paint to correct holograms, if they are saying they will sand it down and and repaint it they are talking nonsense
all it needs is the life shine taking off and then machine polish with a dual action polisher rather than a rotary I would suspect they are just light marks on the top of the clear coat and a single stage polish should get them out or a the most a two stage polish
What area do live in ?
i would be taking the car to a good detailer that knows how to polish a car and asking them for an oppinion and what it would take to correct the holograms and how much it would cost and then go to the dealers and tell them what the detailer has said ansk them if they can polish the marks out and if they say they cant do it then see if you can get them to pay for the correction work at a detailers
if it is just holograms then it can normally be corrected without paint, and that is the route i would be looking to go down0 -

The top picture is what is worrying me as the mark across the bottom of the window is where they removed the 'bird dropping'. You can only see it in a photo.0
