Applying for a credit card after a name change

I want to apply for a balance transfer card - and have been 'pre-approved' by this site.
But: I recently changed my first and last name. I added it to the electoral roll online about 3 weeks ago, but havent heard anything back.
I am looking at the virgin 40 month balance transfer card, but a application does not have anywhere to put a previous name.
I have moved all my accounts over and tired to make an account with clear score under my new name, but it couldn't find me.
How to I create a link between my old name and my new name? Any idea how long it would take?

I would be asking what any lender will ask - why change first and last name - most people change surname only.
I am only saying that they might think you have something to hide.
The only suggestion I can make is you do an appointment to speak to a human who may be able to speak to an underwriter to say yah or nay.0 -

The only suggestion I can make is you do an appointment to speak to a human who may be able to speak to an underwriter to say yah or nay.- if you get married or enter into a civil partnership, or you want to take your partner’s name
- if you get divorced, dissolve a civil partnership, or end a long-term relationship
- to take a double-barrelled name after you marry, or enter into a civil partnership
- to feel more part of a new family, for example a step-family
- to honour or recognise another person, for example a family member or ancestor
- to restore a family surname that has been changed in the past
- as part of a change of gender
- because you dislike your current name
- to separate yourself from a particular person or a time or event in your life
- to stop a former partner finding you
- to anglicise a foreign name
- to de-anglicise a name that has been anglicised in the past
- to identify with or fit in with another culture, country, or religion
- to change the spelling of your name
- because your name was registered incorrectly (e.g. your forename and surname were registered the wrong way round, or with a spelling mistake in one of the names)
- changing your name for a bet
- changing your name on a whim
- changing your name for a humorous reason
- changing your name for purely commercial gain
- changing your name at the same time as a group of other people for a joint purpose
Take your pick. Any of these reasons will do.0 -
I dont think why I changed my name is relevant, but as its an online application I dont know if I can even apply in person
I assume they wont do a credit check in one name and the application in another.0 -

Get your credit report in your old name and see what is on there. In due course your new name will be linked to your old name. Until that happens you won't have a credit history in your new name and therefore won't be known at your address. The quickest way to get your new name on there is to inform a company where you have an account which reports to a CRA about your change of name.0 -
Thanks.
I have changed my bank account and credit card to my new name, so will wait a few months and try clearscore again. I have heard that because of the electoral canvass my register information may not be added until Feb0 -
Your name is your mercantile corporate identity, it is created by a bond known as a Birth certificate as in birth a ship.
It is basically a creation made so other corporations can contract and trade with you under mercantile (civil law of contract) law.
As long as it is done legally and they know the identity of your corporate effigy they can contract with it.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

Well done you will get 10/10 when you hand in your homework.
Post#3 from the OP - He's given enough there for me to say that he's hiding something - good luck to him if he just wanted to change it for a bet, or a whim or a humorous reason.0 -
You might need to write directly to the CRAs. I changed my surname by deed poll and even though I told my bank and credit card company, my "file" still seemed to be in my old name.0

ER takes the longest to update, there doesn't seem to be any urgency with their process. How to I create a link between my old name and my new name? Any idea how long it would take?
If you've updated this with your existing bank/credit accounts then it will start to filter through to the CRAs as they do their monthly update.
Unfortunately there's no guarantee whether the card you are looking at will be happy with the bank account link or whether they would like to see the ER info updated too. Probably the latter. Hold off applying until all the info has been updated if poss.
If you do apply with some info missing from the CRAs, please come back and update us on the outcome to help others in the future.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. You should not have any serious problem in the long term. For the moment you need to complete the name change with ALL credit providers and electoral roll. Wait until your credit reports have been updated with the new information and the name on all credit accounts changed. It is possible that this could take several weeks or even months.
When everything has been changed and updated you should then be able to proceed normally with any applications.0
