The last thing you want is a court ruling. This will show when the buyers on the property do there searches and find it has been filed by the neighbour....not a great advert on the property.

Speak to them and explain your situation and agree to pay £20 per week or whatever you can afford.

i will offer them what i can.

given the situation, would it actually go to court? or even the solicitors?
  • I would like to see a receipt for the job before paying. Pay something if you want to but dont be bullied by them. They dont sound very nice with their

"if i dont pay the money by the end of the week (as they need it for thier holiday) they will contact thier solicitor and this will " have implications' with me selling my house!"

Let them contact their solicitor it will buy you more time to raise the money to pay. Not that you should have too as it sounds like they havent got a case except for the threat of messing up a potential sale.

To be honest if your neighbours were reasonable people , they should understand your dilema, it isn't your fault they had the fence put up, they've footed the bill, if you want to pay do so, but don't be pushed into using credit cards etc.
  • If they are selling too then wouldnt they be shooting themselves in the foot by starting a dispute?

if it was the other way round i would ask what they could afford to pay and when, not threating me with solicitors etc, it all seems over the top

the thing is i WAS and AM going to pay them, it not my fault my car needed so much doing for the MOT, perhaps i should of left the car and got the bus to work

These situations always blow up in yer face, a few days down the line your neighbours may see sense and realise how petty they are being with idle threats, the Solicitor thing will never happen as they know they wouldn't have a leg to stand on. The threat about having implications on selling your home is true , but that would also be the same for them.
If they continue with threats, maybe you could turn the tables and have them up for harassment. If you have access to Legal advise (Barclays additions account holders for instance) now would be the time to use it just for your own piece of mind. Chin up:)
