didnt ignore me for long then.
Civil servant big deal ,institutionalised idiots who dont have the ability to think for themselves,
Hence the need to come on here to find an excuse to get out of paying a bill.
Tell me in which department of the civil service has the honour of listing you as an employee.
lol priceless, from a sub standard electrician0 -
you wouldnt know a good one from a bad one.
My guess is you have been a librarian all your life and like to bull it up by saying your a civil servant.bet you have never worked outside of the bubble and wouldn't cope if you had too.
Shame it doesnt pay to well or you wouldnt have to worry about bills for fences or repairs to cars.
Never really give fences much thought and if any of my vehicles breakdown they are all still covered by manufacturers warranty .
One of the many huge benefits of running your own company you get to offset the cost of the vehicles against tax so we just run new ones and change em at 3 yrs old.Not the only thing we get to help legitimatley cut our tax liability .
Do you get perks like that in the civil service,oh yes you get a good pension dont you.
A life time of low pay and worries about bills all to pick up a pension at the end of it.0 -

You may find yourself needing to hold on to that fence money a little longer if you are not careful.
Still you could fund your defence of the liable action that i may or may not choose to bring against you by selling your old banger and keeping the fence money.
You will never leave the civil service believe me .You were born to work there.
Now get yourself off to bed theres a good little librarian you dont want to be late in the morning now do you.0 -
for someone studying a degree you should know better than to write things like that on an open forum.

ohhhh bring liable action against me then:p if you look closely you will see question marks (these things ???) i was asking a question, not making a statement. come on you can do better than empty threats

We paid £475 to get a fence erected on our 60 foot garden between us and our neighbours we agreed half each but in reality they only paid £20 we thought this might be the case and we had to put it up as there dog kept coming in our garden and through our house!
You can argue till the cows come home but basically nothing in writing means nothing agreed as far as the law states,
we didnt pursue it as we glad to get the fence up
put it in writing to them that you will pay them at the end of the month as you dont have the money before then, if they selling there house then they will also have it on record as a neighbour dispute,
I would also be inclined to tell them that if they keep hassling you for money and threatning you then you will decline from the offer of help to pay half towards their fence.
Sounds like they trying to bully you into paying but if you havnt got it you cant give them itThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -
I think first and foremost, its got to be established who is responsible for that fence.
I do feel its unfair on the OP, I know he agreed to go halves, and circumstances prevented him paying, but he did explain that to them.
(My neighbour is still waiting for her neighbours to cough up, and this was over 12 months ago)
They employed someone of thier own back, who did the job for cash with no receipt, how does OP even know this was the correct price.
I know its not thier fault his car needed work, these things happen, he had the decency to explain, and he is not trying to wriggle out of paying, just that they have to wait another 3 weeks.
If they are prepared to go to a small claims court over £225, and risk it also going on thier disclousure, then they are either very mad, or very stupid, not being a betting lady, but I would bet they are talking out of thier backside.0 -
The way i see it is that the neighbours are partly at fault too. They should have made sure they had the cash flow to pay for the fence in full - rather than assuming you'd pay up! If you hadn't agreed to pay half would they have gone ahead with putting up the fence still? I think they are being unreasonable as you seem to have made it clear you intend to pay them when you can. A bit late now.. but I suppose you should have had the foresight that your car could fail its MOT and cost you a packet. You live and learn!
Still i'm taking note of this thread of how to avoid probs as one of our shared fences is in need of replacing at some point.

UPDATE:
i have withdrawn £160 off capital one card (thats all that was left) and lent £25 off a friend (who is also short of cash)
ive been round to offer it to them and said i will give them £40 when i get paid next thursday, i apologised for the delay . they turned round and said they are still going to the solicitor to pursue me for the whole cost of the fence!??
so ive kept the money
they were quite nasty too0 -
That's odd. I can't see what they can gain by turning down cash.
Your next move to protect yourself is to write to them setting out your offer. Send it by recorded delivery so you have proof you offered to pay.
There is no way they can recover the full amount as any idiot would query why they erected a fence on your behalf and paid the bill in full, on your behalf. It will be obvious that it's a 50/50 split.
Out of interest who has the ugly side (i.e the back of the fence).
I wouldn't worry about any record of dispute affecting the sale of your house as they are selling too a serious buyer will realise that the problem disappears when you both move.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
