  • Buying shares in Northern Rock is more akin to gambling then investing - so don't use money you can't afford to lose and don't buy if you are going to get stressed out by every fluctuation in the share price. You can always try to limit your losses by setting a stop loss but with a share that is bouncing up and down like this you are likely to get 'stop lossed' out of them on the dips, especially if your stop loss is only say 10% below your buy price.

Not going near them myself, although I was tempted by Standard Life yesterday (up around 8% today) but didn't buy any - isn't hindsight a wonderful thing. :)

Interstingly I was looking at an old copy (02 Feb 07) of Money Week today and Paul Hill had Northern Rock as his 'tip of the week' with the headline "Solid Northern Rock is a way into bank sector profits" - at the time the shares were near their all time high of £12. Oops!

Somewtimes it just goes to not listen to the experts, and go with your heart. IE chairman / MD of a company, that you have faith in, pulling the company around! :D:D

can someone tell me........if you buy at £2.57 and then the company is taken over what happens. Do the shares get suspended and then you get a reissue once the new business has been formed????

How low can this company go?? can i put a request at a broker to buy at £2 and then sell at £3 a share is that possible??

Is the only way you can lose money if you sell your shares for less than you buy or can you lose them if the company is sold. there is no way that the bank can go bust so these must be worth a punt???? answers on a postcard to.............

If (when) NRK are bought by another group, you don't have to sell, but the shares would be de-listed and there would be nothing to gain by holding out.
