  • Ive said NRK is a a huge risk all along, some people can afford to take that risk with maybe £1500-3K but they also enjoy putting 400quid on a horse, its a hobby its a punt. Some have already lots most of their life savings on it after diving in at 4.50p. It might stabalise at 3.30 and citigroup might make a bid for it for 3.80p anything can happen in the next half hour - thunderbirds i think.

Lots of fun just watching the whole thing unravel... very high profile event and some people like to have front row seats with the raffle ticket in hand.

I think someone up there likes me!
  • Have you noticed since 20:30 it is steadily rising back from the dip this morning?
  • Hi,

Can anyone tell me what happens if theres a takeover? Do my shares just transfer to the new company or an i forced to sell? I bought a small amount at 280p and planned to hold on to them for a year or so.

  • I'm really worried now - I (stupidly?) bought £1k's worth of NR shares this morning for £3.16 they're now at £2.90 do I sell now and lose £82 or risk holding out and hope they go up??

Help! I have no nails left!

It depends on the terms of the takeover offer - your shares may transfer to another company or you may have to accept cash - or sometimes the company launching a takeover bid gives a choice

Lesson learned for next time... You're obviously not comfortable with this drop, so you've invested well outside your risk level. The reports for Northern Rock range between "it might recover well" and "it might drop to almost nothing or get sold off at 200p per share", meaning that you essentially bought shares knowing that the value could drop to almost nothing.

As for what to do now, you can sell at a loss and call it an escape from what might happen, or you can hold on and see if they recover again. It has to be your own decision though, because if anyone else knew what the shares were going to do, they'd probably be very rich soon!
