When completing Advanced driving courses with Ex Met Police Drivers in the past their advice was to always park a car in neutral.
The logic being if your car is hit whilst parked brakes are cheaper to replace than a gearbox(plus any other related damage).
Still I always park in gear0 -

Having been trained by serving police officers they never gave that as a reason.
Why? They don't care, it's not in the manual and they won't be paying.0 -

Update: Car repair not started yet, bit annoyed. We are meant to be going away (6 of us). Can't do that in the 1.0 litre Fiasco...'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

I only do if I'm parked on a noticeable slope... which is a few times a year if that. Do some of you routinely leave your car in gear then?
I always leave my landy in gear. I apply the handbrake with the clutch depressed and let the vehicle weight settle against the handbrake, switch off and release the clutch.
If I'm on level ground, I leave the landy in whatever gear I finished maneuvering in, otherwise a gear opposing the slope. If it's very steep, I also engage low range and differential lock.
My other car is an automatic which applies the park8ng gear whenever the keys are removed.0 -

Update: Garage called today stating that they are still awaiting the rear near side seat belt. It's on back order and is expected the last week of December 2016.
