Right so the young lad has managed to release the handbrake and you lot think he wouldn't have managed to then wiggle a gearstick around whilst playing....

Givingnop a bit of a hard time here. I'm betting a very small number of people would have done that whilst unloading shopping.

Although you should have moved out of the way rather than try stop it from behind but the benefit of hindsight is a lovely thing.

    Hope you recover soon!
The OP has already admitted they never leave the car in gear.

We were simply offering advice. There's absolutely no need to take that tone.

    Yes of course.....

    Neilmcl: Move house then

    OP: Great advice!

I simply answered your thread to show why it is a good idea to leave a car in gear, nothing more.

I would imagine the majority of drivers do not leave their car in gear when parked.

I'd imagine the split would be fairly even.

Thanks. Both very upset, especially the youngest 'Daddy I'm super super sorry'. Bless him! I was trapped in the back for some time with my leg/ ankle pinned at a lovely angle in pain. Rather than shouting I just engaged them in conversation!

My wife has been to the neighbour and given her a bottle of Champagne as a thank you!

Work have been excellent and arranged for me to work from home.

So the whole bootlid is shattered/ bent broken but the bumper is as new!

Maybe the bumper looks ok, but best to get it checked for underlying damage .
