It's really cheap at our school. It's £1.40 a day! And there are no chips etc, it's all healthy eating. Our school is "opted out" which means it doesn't use the standard council caterers but manages itself. I think the normal price of a meal in Manchester is around £1.75 per day.
  • £2.40 a day here.

£1.70 here in the west mids (primary). Good , healthy food though and all prepared from fresh ingredients so worth it I think.

They have a four week rotating menu and chips only appear once across the four weeks (on one of the Friday fish days). They do have burgers and pizza among the menu but they are home made from local produce so ok imo.

It's a roast every Wednesday, fish every Friday (a different type every week), pasta one day and the other two days vary.

I don't know what the going rate is at dd's secondary school as she takes packed lunches but we weren't getting any change form £2.50 a couple of years ago and that was just things like a piece of pizza or portion of chips and a drink.
  • hi, my 2 dd stop school dinner and it cost me 15.00 a week for both so its 1.50 a day, that at primary. ds is at high school he takes 3.00 a day for dinner as he says he needs that much but he has started to come home after school with a maccy d (not happy) that in south yorkshire
  • £1.50 a day here in the Vale of Glamorgan. The menus in fairness are very good, my son & daughter love school dinners and for the amount my son eats i think its worthwhile.
Back in my day it was 50p for mini or 75p for maxi dinners.
I Did shudder at writing a cheque for £30 for 2 weeks meals however. Am dreading number 3 starting school !!

£8.25 here in Carmarthenshire (someone do the maths for me as to what it is per day!). Dinners are pretty reasonable, they've been doing healthier stuff for a while, everything has to be fresh ingredients, etc... I know this because mil is the school cook (although she's off sick at the mo). Monday is DD's favourite though because it's CHIP DAY!!!!! I've been contemplating packed lunch for her because she is good at eating a healthier sort of picnic, but I just feel it's making work for myself.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

£8.50 a week here- but it's a great menu, nice wholesome food, not too many pizza or sandwiches, nice things like roast chicken in gravy with baked potato. Then usually dessert, but there's always fruit and youghurt available if they don't fancy the dessert. Sometimes they have soup and a main course instead, no pudding. It's priceless for the amount of new food my DD eats whereas before she was very fussy, despite our best efforts.
She sometimes asks to go to packed lunches, and I always say no- I like her having something hot in the middle of the day in winter, and tbh it would be difficult to offer her as wide a range of foods as the dinner ladies do.:T
