how much for school dinners?

We have just received the school newsletter which says the price of a hot school meal has risen to £1.90 per child, per day so £9.50 per week. My son takes a packed lunch (he is a V. fussy eater) but I was just wondering how much this price compares to others and if where you live makes a difference to the price (we live in the south west.)

I remember paying £0.50 a week at Primary School and it was a 25p Dinner Ticket at Secondary School before they introduced the Canteen Style pick your own things type menu.

My kids have just brought home the school newsletter £1.90 a day for them Infants and Juniors, although the Juniors get bigger portions according to my eldest.

  • Sorry I got stuck in the past a bit there. Anyway my kids are at high school one takes packed lunch and the other comes home and cooks himself sonething. But when I was on holiday last year OH was giving them £2 a day, which is aobut what it costs canteen style. Though I found out later they spent it all on chocolate.

  • its £1.60 here in east london.also good selection and tasty food.
  • £1.70 for my sons primary school in Essex.

As I have three sons there now that would be £25.50 per week.

They don't have school dinners very often now.

When I had one child at school though he always had school dinners and I felt they were good value.
